CSA Gen. Martin Green:
"A bullet has not yet been molded that will kill me." - final words before being killed at Vicksburg.

USA Gen. John Sedgwick:
"They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance." - final words before being killed near the Wilderness.

At least these guys are remembered for their final words being ironic. Many Civil War generals are totally forgotten today. But some live on by unexpected means - who'd have thought old Burnside would still be remembered for his facial hair 160 years later?
