I really enjoy the MP Gaming aspect . I wish In a future Update They could design a MP facet to the Game where By you select MP followed By Side and troops you are commanding. It would take the game to a whole new level

Example Army Commander sees the whole Picture and commands perhaps the Cavalry . 1st Corp commander sees only things His Corp can see Friendly and enemy you get the idea

Lastly It would Be great Fun to have Big MP games Reb vs Yank commanders playing their respective sides kind of an ACWGC Superbowl

Richard,

Your points about Big MP games are noted. I assume you are familiar with and have both read and viewed Blake's Multiplayer Games ? They have all you refer to and more.......in spades.

Richard,

Your idea is interesting and there is some possibility that it might actually happen. Back in the fall of 2023, Rich Hamilton of WDS gave an interview. Here is a link to that interview:

https://tallyhocorner.com/2023/10/zulus ... terviewed/

In the interview, Rich was asked a question about a mechanism (Envoy) to better simulate the control of armies. Rich's response was: "Yes, there is a high probability you will see something like this implemented in the pre-twentieth century games at some point. The amount of information available to the player is currently exponentially higher than their historical counterparts – so we are interested in providing an option for players to experience the games in something much closer to a realistic setting – delayed orders are a part of that. I would venture to say that tying it to the Commander Control feature would also play in, and further line of sight changes so that unit placement and enemy force displays are based on intelligence gathered – rather than just seeing everything your forces can see in total."

Obviously it is approaching 2 years since the interview, but at least we know that the idea is at least on WDS's radar.

Richard,

I also like your idea and would like to see it implemented. Playing mostly MP games myself, I would also like to be able to click on a leader and be able to hit the "next unit" button and have the game scroll through only those units under his control. When you are playing large battle with large amount of troops and only a portion of those troops have been assigned to you, it is easy to sometimes forget to move and/or fire some of your troops. Have suggested this to Rich H in the past. Hopefully we get it implimented at some point.

Richard,

I note your point above and whilst the "Ideal MP Battle" is important, I also suggest. IMHO, there are other points to be considered in respect of a 'successful' MP game i.e. players, structure, lines of communication, participation and willingness to compromise. A failure or lacking in one or more of these components and it will not matter what "Ideal MP Battle" is selected.

A good MP game to select depends on the number of players involved + the length of the game you wish to play (not to mention finding a title everyone has in common). Some setups really work well for 2 on 2 and others for maybe 3 on 3 or 4 on 4. Most MP games occur at Antietam, Gettysburg, or Chickamauga as those are the most popular titles people own. Luckily each offers some quality options for MP games.

<Salute> Sir,

A question if I may please. You are highly experienced in creating, running and managing MP games, of some note, within the ACWGC. Taking account of all the points you raised above, the titles, scenarios and optimum numbers for a successful MP game, how do you rank the importance of suitable players in an MP game, vis a vis: player interaction, teamwork and ability to compromise for a successful outcome. A successful outcome being the MP game running it's course. My question does not in any way relate to a winning/losing outcome. but rather that of a possibly disparate group of individuals being drawn together to operate/co-operate as a team. Your approach to this matter is, I believe, well known and understood by anyone who has played in one of your MP games. It may not however, be, I suggest, something which is generally considered or to which sufficient thought is given in the initial stages of an MP game.

Your thoughts, based on your vast experience in this area, will be greatly appreciated.
