With the arrival of Pender, the tide was slowed.
Troops hurried into position to oppose the blue-coated
devils. Rodes' small division rushed south to contend
with the town itself, and Anderson rode to the sound
of the guns. A.P.Hill turned to his aide and
said..."This is good ground. It allows for rapid
reinforcement. I hear Cutler bruised Heth a bit. Not
to worry. We shall come to grips with him soon....."
