The largest night action I recall was at Chickamauga where a full battle occurred after sunset between Cleburne's Division and Thomas's men (see Peter Cozzens "This Terrible Sound" p. 268). Pure and utter chaos.
But I agree with your statement that the side that moves last at dusk gets an unfair advantage as the side which is attacked has to go through a night morale check as opposed to a dusk morale check. But I can't figure out how they'd fix that since the system would probably have to be reprogrammed to run the morale checks to the previous turn's conditions.
But then whoever attacked first at dawn would then get an advantage as their opponent would go through a night morale check, lol. Screwed either way.
But I am no programmer so will let that be someone else's headache.
