In a gracious gesture of Southern hospitality, Confederate CoA General DW Mallory offered to cross swords with me to kick of General Nelms' Braggin' Rights tourney.
The battle location was Iuka, historical scenario. It was new to both of us, and short with only 12 turns. I had offered 3 points to General Mallory for 5 points towards the Union for the tourney.
The battle unflded quickly, as I pushed forward from the outset, knowing that with the objective hexes being in such close proximity to each other, my best defense was to go on the offense and create some space to allow for the eventual Union routs![B)]
The Union cavalry briefly held the town, but a brigade of Rebs swept through, forcing a Union retreat after grabbing one Supply Wagon, but at the expense of nearly 100 cavalry troopers.[xx(]
The difference in the game was two fold - my ability to capture 6 tubes of artillery, and the fact that the routs didn't hit until turn 10, by which time I had made good progress forward.
Thanks to DW for a great game! We'll be matching up again as soon as I get back from Cointh...
Huzzah Union!
