Just for the sake of clarity, I will say that Tom Marshall "has the keys" to the ACWGC.net website should anything happen to me. The site is not cheap to maintain but if something does happen to me that is no longer my concern

The sites in our club are ALL privately owned and operated. This includes the DOR, the wargame.ch homepage, and even my websites. The Club is not a business or anything like that where the sites are owned collectively and/or overseen by a governing body. The DOR is/was a great tool for recordkeeping. People may disagree with me, but I don't think the DOR is the heart and soul of the Club. It's a warehouse. The heart and soul of the Club are the forums as it contains the Opponent Finder. We are all here to play games afterall. If I never earned a point, title, or rank from playing in the Club I'd still be a member because of the games. Maybe the future is a club without such things. I don't know. We will begin to examine these things at a later date if the DOR really is gone. Sometimes things change that you don't see coming or anticipate. All you can do is adjust. We will eventually adjust but right now it is too early to know how (or even if) we need to adjust.

The Club rolls on with or without the DOR. It goes on with or without ranks, promotions, points, or records. So long as we have the games and a place to find opponents - all is well.

What did saying this constructively achieve? Did it make you feel better? This is as unhelpful as me replying to your following post that "division commanders should be active and communicating with their brigade commanders, not just in the role to display a fancy title and collect gongs for themselves. They shouldn't need the DoR to know the email addresses of the handful of people that they command."

I second Michael's question as to whether you feel better after you post arrogant, destructive and spectacularly presumptuous, righteous, and insultingly inaccurate statements about the motivation and dedication of the Club Cabinet.

The fact is that it has been long recognized that key systems of the Club need to have back up plans to deal with situations such as face now with the DOR. General Sands has been contacted numerous times over the last several years with requests that he provide several trusted members with information regarding the location of the DOR data and the means to access that data in the event he was unable to do so. He quietly and persistently refused. It is that simple. As Thomas noted, we are presently turning over every stone to determine just what may have happened to Ernie.

In the meantime, your unsolicited and obnoxious commentary serves no useful purpose for anyone other than perhaps yourself.

Most sincerely,

"What did saying this constructively achieve?"

A, possibly forlorn, hope that it may spur them into action.

"Did it make you feel better?"

No, that wasn't the point of it - see above answer.

"The fact is that it has been long recognized that key systems of the Club need to have back up plans to deal with situations such as face now with the DOR."

If that is a fact then, as I asked in my first post: What is that plan?

Earlier posts seemed to indicate that the only 'plan' was to try and contact the missing Member. Surely, there should have been more of a plan to:
1. Fix the DoR;
2. Replace it with something else; and/or
3. In the interim between #1, #2 implement temporary measures such as those suggested in my second post.
Additionally, the DoR data should have been regularly saved offline. It would appear that was not done so the horse has bolted there, so probably best to concentrate on 1, 2 and 3,

It's been about three weeks now. The longer that no action is taken the more confused the situation will become.

Paul, as the CSA GinC my "plan" is to wait.

There is nothing that can be done until we firmly establish what the future of the DOR is. Once we know that... then you and everyone else will know. Karl and Steve are on board with this because there is literally no alternative. Mustering is shut down for June and July and we will reevaluate in August once more answers are hopefully known.

Again... this isn't "the Cabinet" working on this and searching for answers. This is literally every admin person in the Club, past and present, active and inactive, working to try and hunt Ernie down or search for a long lost password or admin passcodes for the DOR. I've heard from people I haven't heard from in 10 years trying to help. I could speculate about the "next steps" but speculation is uncalled for at present. We will cross that bridge if and when we get to it.

You might not like the plan of waiting. But that is the plan at present.

Noted.

No, I don't like the sound of a "plan of waiting" as I prefer action and predetermined actions via contingency plans. C'est la vie.
The honesty and a clear explanation on what is being done (or not done) is appreciated.

Prior to the DOR, there were at least two systems that preceded it and were 'lost' when the members that created and maintained them left the club and took their systems with them. We and the club survived those and we will survive this as well. Were some records lost when those systems disappeared? Yes, but the club marched on due to devoted and talented members. Hopefully, Ernie will reappear shortly in good spirits and good health. If not, then our leaders are very capable and will come up with a plan.

I contributed all the info I could. Unfortunately, I haven't kept in close contact with Ernie over the last few years. Also unfortunately, if he isn't answering it is because there are serious issues, most likely health related. I've known Ernie for over 25 years now and the man has put in an astounding amount of effort into several clubs. Just not like him to drop off the radar without a really, really good reason.

Judging from the sound of that no one has a copy of the Administrator login name and password?
Also, sound like no one has a backup copy of the database?
Anyone know what kind of database he used? (MySQL, SQL, ...)?

His server is still up. It can be pinged.
But the database doesn't appear to be running.
