Gentlemen! <salute>
I made my usual trip to Costco today. As always I preview the book selection looking for my favorite authors. Well to my surprise I came upon a new book by Jeff Shaara called "The Rising Tide" which is a novel of WWII! I thoroughly enjoyed his last effort about the American Expeditionary forces in France during WWI! I will be starting it tonight!
Just an update, I've completed reading the book and it was just great! It now has my interest in a little more research on the Campaigns themselves.
I have now started another book that has received a lot of attention in the past few months: Flags of Our Fathers! Wow! I am just 35 pages into it and I can't believe how good the writing is!
The Author and his family made a visit to Iwo Jima in the airplane of the Commandant of the Marine Corps (who was with them). This I didn't know, but since the Island is again part of Japan, it is garrisoned by their military and you must receive permission to visit the Island. It is not opened to regular tourist visitation!
