"as many as would like to are welcome" (Lars)
Unless someone has experience with larger teams, I think it would be prudent to limit this to a 2 on 2, for two reasons.
1) This is a size of which I know that the engine works with it. I have done some of those in the CCC. Even then we had an incident where my teammate and I meleed against the same hex at the same time. Our entire attack force--over 200 infantry--just disappeared as if in a black hole. Remember that one side's players move simultaneously on the same map. The more players, the more likely collisions become. But that's a minor point. Several years of online playing in the NCC have tought me that the technical glitches increase out of proportion with each new player. Afterall, everyone of us uses an internet connection with the host player, and each one of those lines can create problems with every other line. Do the math.
2) The more players, the longer it takes to set up the game. Believe me when I say that what is a quick affair with 4 players can take forever with 6 or 8. More often than not I have seen games this size that needed 45-60 minutes before they even started. Firewall issues, logon failures, communication problems etc. multiply. And we have a very restricted time frame.
So, I would recommend to limit this to 4 players total. Then we have a chance. Otherwise we are likely in for a very frustrating experience.
Then again, I have absolutely no problems with dropping from this game so that others can play.
