Is it really worth upgrading to Windows XP ?

What do you gain ?

I have a XP Pro and it works very well - better than my old W2K. If you have a lot RAM memory (i.e. 512), strong processor (P III or IV) more place on HD you can serious think about XP [:D]

PS. Why you ask here (The Napoleonic Wargame opponent finder)?

I have had XP for almost four years. It really beats 98 for reliability but still has some oddities on my system. My icons try and refresh and while doing so hang the system for a long pause. Its really a pain and I hope that my new PC doesnt have this problem.

If you start loading security software like a firewall and other stuff that loads in the system tray its really dog slow.

Good news for me: I am getting a new PC today - its a Athlon 3000+ and has 1 GB of RAM. HD is 160 MB. The board processes 64 bit instructions and thus can work with the latest version of XP 64 bit. Tech guys were having a problem finding drivers for some of the components but have it all ready to go in a bit. I will pick it up and give you a rundown on the new O/S at different intervals (weekly or so).

I like XP. If you have a serious O/S issue it replaces the files and/or restores the system to a safe level (NOT Safe Mode).

The O/S is rock solid but demands something faster than my 866 Intel processor in order to work fast (I also have 1 GB of RAM in this sytem - its for Photo Shop).
