The Napoleonic Wargame Club is an international club whose goal is to promote the play of the supported games and to help the members get acquainted with the various tools and places that supply information.

But its international!

I wanted to note to new comers and old timers alike some things:

1. Half of our websites or more reside out of the US. The main website is from a Swiss web hosting firm I believe (based on previous posts by Pierre). As to the founders - we are as international as you want to get: Pierre from Canada, Steve is from the US like myself and we had a fellow from the UK that helped get it all started. Dierk, for instance is from Germany, and hosts alot of club websites. Point: we are not a US, French or even British "club" - we are international.

2. While the club is about Napoleon and his wars our club has a full international membership, flavor and design. While English is the usual language used on the forum I have seen posts in French and German on occaision. In a MP game I am in with three other guys they talk to each other in an Eastern European language (Czech I believe) once in awhile. I humorously note that they are talking behind my back which brings some chuckles from them!

3. Politics - its for the Off Topic forum and we try our best to keep our national sentiments out of the club discussions. Once in awhile in the past a guy has made a comment about a country in poor taste but we usually cooperate in keeping politics out of emails with game files unless its by mutual agreement.

4. Outlook - our club doesnt represent a English based population. We cater to every nation under the sun - even North Korea! While we dont have anyone from that country that doesnt mean that they cannot join. We have no country embargo on members.

Thus we are an international club, yes, it sometimes brings up language difficulties but we aim to keep the club as open to all as possible.

This is just a note to remind many that we stand as a Napoleonic club and not the club for the Bush Coalition, Blair re-election committee or Chirac Fan club.

Thus everyone is welcome to participate in the vote! Please get out and vote by Sunday. Get out the word to guys that you think may not have gotten the message.

Your participation in the election shows that you support your right to be counted.

I cant believe that only 30-40 guys will determine our President. We must have at least 100 active members. Why not 70-90 votes at least?

I truly feel that the direction of the club will not be greatly altered by whoever wins the election. I feel that the members by how they promote new games, ideas and how active they are in the club will point us down future paths.

Your participation in the club is really needed. While its not a one man show I dont see the same level of effort that we once had. When we have to close certain portions of an army OB (downsize) it means that we dont have the members to support that organization. Members that are active or who are helping out.

Lets remember that the club was founded by folks from varying countries with a full international flavor developing as we grew.

The club is now fully mature but are we fully developed?

While many folks like to just play games it takes more than this to make the club fun and supportive. It takes communication.

The army I am in communicates with me. Once in awhile I may miss an email but I hear from my commanders.

The clubs that I see that are succeeding are communicating. If your gripe is that you dont hear from HQ then why not step up to the plate and become a Division CO? Dont have much time? All you need to do is send off a monthly note to your guys. Put a note on your calendar and have a template/draft message ready to go. Fill in the blanks with info and fire it off to your officers. Its that easy.

You dont have to be a Corps or Army commander to make a difference in this club. A simple email once a month and perhaps a few extra now and then makes a HUGE difference in a gamer's life.

If you feel that communication is a huge issue then do something about it. Help out your army. And help your club out by voting in this election or contact someone that is a member that may not know about the election.

If any part of this email was not understood by members who dont read English or understand some of my phrasing please respond and I will help you out or find someone that can.

Great post Bill!

BTW I recall there was a discussion board ran only in french so that members from France or whereever could communicate freely. Could someone please post a link to it since I don't actually remember it[:I] I know of at least one "national" board and web page. The one of 8th infantry corps of Russian Second Army of the West.

Thanks. I have met so many new people via this club. Folks that live in faraway places. Its been alot of fun.

Some guys have a standing offer of a night on their couch or barn and others would gladly meet me and give me a tour of a local battlefield (divorce court [:D]) such as how Phil Prete did with me at Saratoga.

Its been grand meeting folks from the other nations of this world. Many of them are some of my best friends in gaming. I miss so many of the guys that have left the club like Einar Masson and the other guys from Iceland. And many others that passed on to do other endeavors like Paul Harris. Glad to see Mike Gjerde back. He is from a foriegn country you know - California!

Ah a lass Bill not the only International Club that speaks of the same ideals nor has a portfolio of International members.

But all that you speak of it not uncommon and is generally understood. I send out e-mails to my men every 2 months here for a general Armee e-mail and every month at my French Command at the 1NWCG.

We have a diverse management and have fun discussions on occasion. Like it was insane to even comment last World Cup season but neat to see evryone get all worked up over it. We also work with non-English speaking people.

The point is it does not matter where you are, you will always have a huge apathy. We had a relative small turnout at the 1NWCG when we changed our whole points, ranks, medals and icons system, a huge club move. But our Board communicates often and we've got good people as it is here too who push things to get it done and it works. All these clubs have a select member of people who participate and do things the rest just play games or do nothing at all. It is a place for many to get away from real life and have fun. I have had people say to me time and time again in all my commands, "I am just here to play games", "I don't care about medals, ranks, points etc, just wanna play."

Like I said in the Allied Tavern if the US can't even pull 50% in a Presidential election don't worry about it here.

Jim is right if they don't vote they should not complain in the future, though I agree a lot of people are still on Holiday.

But good post none-the-less and good points to keep in mind. I hope I have not been too harsh.

Hehe Al Amos - " Ah a lass Bill not the only International Club that speaks of the same ideals nor has a portfolio of International members."

Not even Scott was speaking English here I think!

Can you make this out? I think he is saying:

"You are all invited over to my pool party on Friday night. Bring speedos and big glasses!"

Ok - what DID he say? First one that gets it right gets a free pair of Speedo trunks from Scott![:I]

[:D][:D]

Once I figure out what he said I will find out if I get heated over it or not [:(!][:(!][:(!] - oh well - who cares - I am having too much fun here. Not gonna get heated in Scott's pool I think!

Scott is one cool cat. [8D]

Scott - I am sorry if you took my jesting the wrong way. Please accept my apology. I was not mad at you nor was I trying to go kinky on you.

My replies were just in jest and not meant to be taken as you did - which is my fault for wording them so that you didnt understand my meaning.
