I'm a returning LT to the French army. I noticed that there are a ton of French officers looking for Allied opponents on the opponents board. My question is: is there a marked disparity between the two sides with many more officers fighting for France? Should I maybe join the Allied effort this time? What say you Allied officers?

Maybe because most Allied officers don't play with the old Talonsoft games anymore. A bit like the French France now defunct. [8D][:p][:)]

I play the old Talonsoft games anymore :-)

Bit finnicky about modified scenarios and rules, though...

I am known to try and stir up trouble on occasion, but this isn't one of those times. [:)] I'm asking a legitimate question. Are there any statistics on numbers for both sides?

A quick look of the French officers list and Allies lists finds it almost 2:1 or perhaps more than that. The French army is very popular for members to choose.

I am not sure that you will find that the Allies loathe the Talonsoft system. I have seen the French tear the Allies apart (my Allies!) in the HPS games enough to know that there isnt much difference as far as game systems go in that area. And there are plenty of Russians that have won at NIR to make the French fear them in that title.

Funny enough I have heard that most of the Allied officers like the attention. Unlike their French opponents in the club they never want for opponents. And funny enough I remember several times where French officers wouldnt accept a challenge from an Allied officer on the Opponents forum.

So why not join the Allies (Austrians are a good group of guys!) and you will never want for opponents!

(Advertisement paid for by the Austrian officer's pension fund)

Or fight with the Prussians! And of course the Russians and Anglo-Allies are a good bunch of guys as well.

That difference does exsist.

<font color="pink">I would take it as a personal favour if you would join the Austrians. I can't seem to earn one more medal for my chest [the Grand Triumph Cross], because I have to beat one of every Allied nation to qualify for it. It's not that I can't beat Austrians, but rather there is a subrule that the match has to last at least 16 turns! I keep beating them too fast, and hence don't qualify for the medal.[^] Figure that one out! So, if you are really skilful, join the Austrians and accept my challenge. And then hold on for 10 turns. I knew it existed; I didn't know it was so pronounced. Still, keep in mind that the armies have different standards for moving officer from the active lists to the reserves. I always was under the impression that the French armies were rather liberal in keeping officers on active status for quite long in spite of obvious inactivity. I can personally attest to the fact that the Anglo-Allied Armies, at least as long I was doing the clerical work for them, were much quicker to weed out inactive officers. So maybe our (the French) higher numbers are to a certain extent misleading.

As I have found an Allied opponent I will remain with the French. Besides, family heritage urges me to stay with my ancestors in battle.
