I expect that as a member of the Union Army of the Potomac, Lieutenant, you will do you're part in protecting Lt. Gen. Dowling and I in our Washington offices. Please send all battlefield spoils here immediately as you get them, especially any C.S.A. consignment shipments marked "McOmish!" It is felt at this time that if General Cameron McOmish is robbed and deprived of his liquors that he will soon degenerate in his command abilities, thereby becoming a liability to the entire southern war effort. However. and here you must pay the strictest attention, none of the crates need be opened and none of the bottles damaged, as they will be scrupulously examined and inspected here. I need not tell you, Lieutenant, that such contraband is very dangerous to the health of a new officer such as yourself, while it does not pose such a risk to those of us who wear the stars. You are also forewarned that should Gen. McOmish appear on your front and seek your complicity in ignoring our orders, that he may offer you a comfortable posting and rank by which you will become eligible to attend the C.S.A. Drinking Team School in Louisiana.
