I really want to like this style of play But for me The 2D with the alternate is IMO the Most precise way to play

those that do use the 3d maps/ Hand Drawn do you have the grid on ? slopes? or just pure with all this off?

I do on occasion Look at this mode but always move in 2d normal or zoom out with Alternate units (troop view )

I'm the opposite. I cannot play with 2D maps. I just find them dull and I can't see what I want to see as far as unit formations and facings go as quickly as I want to. Yes, before everyone calls me crazy, I probably am

I think I just got into the 3D maps very long ago and it became a personal preference thing.

I use the contours feature to see elevation better but that's it. The hex outlines I find distracting.

2D for me, almost exclusively. I think the only time I go into 3D is to check where breastworks are already built (sometimes difficult to see in a busy area of the map). I also find the colours in 3D confusing.

Mainly though I think I stick with 2D because that's what I've been used to for over forty years. I would have played my first board wargame when I was about 13 years old, and I've played a lot since then. Almost all of them were hex maps so I don't find it distracting the least, hexes are an old friend.

I treat the WDS games just like a boardgame [no 3D in them] except I don't have to roll dice and check tables. The game engine does all those calculations for me.
