They have actually removed the disassembled cannon this year. It also seems they are beginning to clear a lot of the thick underbrush around the Slaughter Pen in an attempt (perhaps?) to make the line of sight from the Pen greater than twelve feet. They also added about a half dozen cannon around the battlefield (which about doubles their total number of guns on display). Overall I believe Stones River has made some huge changes in the past two years and are likely getting ready to wrap up all the renovation by the anniversary this month. Kudos to them for the facelift!
Mark Davis and I visited last week and we could still see the path through the fields where the tornado hit back in 2008. Otherwise the battlefield is in great shape!
The old busted up guns used to lay here but were replaced by this new sign (the old sign was finally removed as well after suffering from many years of neglect and a bit of vandalism by Yankee's no doubt
