Gentlemen,

I joined the NWC a couple of years back though I remained pretty much inactive as I only owned the old BG Napoleonic titles.
I have recently acquired HPS Jena-Auerstadt and Eckmuhl and would very much like to be properly introduced to Napoleonic PBEM.
I seek an opponent on any small scenario to give me a taste of battle. I am an experienced player on HPS ACW games but a novice on Napoleonics.

Welcome back to the NWC! Always glad to see players come home. Napoleonic tactics are substantially different than ACW, primarily due to the difference in the employment of the cavalry component. Also, you will discover that the HPS system plays, or rather should be played, very differently from the BG series. I personally prefer the HPS games now, but would never forsake the BG games on which I started.

What is your unit, rank and in which army do you serve?

Ah yes, I forgot to state my allegiance!

I was originally assigned to the 1 / II Nassau Regiment, Anglo-Allied Army at the lowly rank of ensign.

I have sent communications to my superiors to see if I need to be re-assigned or undergo further training.

Either way, I saw no harm in posting here to hopefully get a small skirmish underway.

I am not certain that your regiment still exists in the Anglo-Allied OOB. Lt-Generaal Marco will figure that out in any case and let you know. Everyone is fairly occupied with the Holidays at the moment, so I expect that the response time could be a little longer right now. Generaal Moss is the Club's Trainer for the A-A Army. He is an excellent teacher and a great guy. He has probably literally played in excess of 10,000 turns in his Napoleonic gaming career. I could not recommend a better person to bring you up to speed on the HPS system.

I might be able to squeeze in a very small scenario that can be finished rather quickly, but I have some outstanding offers to other officers in my brigade at the moment. I really need to get their responses before I could make a new commitment. Take a look at the scenarios and see what you might want to play. Let me know, and I will see if I can fit it into my schedule.

I've been looking through the scenario lists and I see plenty of smaller sized battles to choose from, but I guess that either of the "getting started" scenarios on Jena or Eckmuhl would be as suitable as any.
I'd be delighted if you do have room for a small skirmish, my turn exchange rate is usually quite rapid and I'll happily take either side and any rule setup that you prefer.

Hey Ernie, I think you were asking the question of James, but my signature also seems to be missing. Now that I read it again, you may actually have been asking the question of me. Scott Ludwig stores my signature on his server and I am waiting for him to update the file with the latest JPG I sent to him a couple of weeks ago now. Until then, I have been including my signature as an attachment, but I don't know why it is missing from my last posts here. I am certain that it was contained in both of these original postings. I did have another posting where my signature was missing at the time of posting and then later appeared. :(

I think your question regarding my posts must best be answered by our webmasters. I cannot tell you why this is happening, but I am including my signature in all of my posts per my usual habit. :?

Scott? Pierre? Anybody???

I hope you had a great Christmas. Good to hear from you again even if you are busting my chops at the moment.

Actually, I encourage such activity. I think it keeps the club more interesting as long as it is done in good taste.

OK, I did a little thinking about it and believe I understand the problem with my signature now. Unlike many other signatures, perhaps all of them, my signature is rendered in a JPG format. The JPG includes both the image and the text. It is stored on a server and included in my posts by a linked reference to its web address. I am coming to realize that there are several problems with this method as follows:

1. All of my posts, both past and present, will display a signature based on the current link. This means that my previous posts as an Ensign in the Hanoverian Jagers would now display a Major in the Hanoverian Brigade. Not desirable for students of history, such as myself, who would prefer to see the posts as they were originally signed.

2. Any interuption related to the server on which my signature is stored will immediately render me hors de signature.

3. Updating my signature places an additional burden on Scott when my goal would be to lessen Scott's burden and spread the work across several members. If several of us can perform some limited tasks for the club, we will help prevent the overload and subsequent burnout of the senior members that are absolutely critical to our success and longevity. I love playing the games, but with them come many responsibilties that must be shouldered for the club to remain viable long term. If we all simply play the games, the club will cease to exist altogether.

I am going to look into revising my signature to eliminate the foregoing problems. I thought the all inclusive image was a neat idea, but did not realize the downside until now.

Also, since my old signature seems to be posting erratically at the moment, I am led to believe that inimitable Scott Ludwig may have recieved some wonderful electronic Christmas gift with which he is experimenting. Bigger boys must have better toys! :P

You could set up a basic signature in our profile ( sans pictures ) unti you get it sorted out.

It is cleary stated that your posts here must contain a proper signatutre

Hey, Scott. Great to see you!

I know that the precedent for the salvation of the Anglo-Allied Army by the Prussian Army was set nearly two hundred years ago, but I am very glad to see that you are still carrying on the tradition.

Danken Sie, mein Freund!

(Ooopps! The preview indicates that the battle is not yet won.)

Game over, Dude! Thanks, Scott!!! :P

It is just like my luck for a checkbox to become the bane of my existence. Well, that and posting top secret Allied messages in an open forum for all to see.

I actually think Ernie was posting with a sense of humor and John was honestly trying to help by offering other options. :D

Great guys, both of them, even if they are star struck by Le Tondu. They are far from alone, I assure you. 8)

You are a great guy too, Scott. 8) 8) 8)

BTW, when reading the posts of the Hanoverian Jones, you should always bear in mind that his younger brother was forcibly conscripted into La Grande Armee and subsequently perished in the Russian winter. I fear that that young officer will never see any merit to the war in general, and Old Nappy in particular. As for me, I kinda admire the Corsican myself....

Dang! Did I say that out loud? No sir, Generals Marco and Moss. I did not mean a word of it. I hate the Corsican bas$%&*! What's that? Oh, crap!!! KP again!!!!! How many d@#$ potatoes can one army eat anyway! :( :( :(
