I may be traveling to Germany this summer, centered around Munich. Does anyone know of Napoleonic museums or preserved sites in the area?

Bill Peterson did a tour of that area taking tons of pics of the Eckmuhl battlefield. If you need his email address please email me and I will be happy to send it to you.

The battlefields of April 1809 are very easily reached from Munich. About 3 hours' drive to the north, you can reach Jena. A short drive to the west of downtown Jena takes you to the village of Cospeda, where there is a museum commemorating the 1806 battle, and walking trails to interesting viewpoints on the Windknollen plateau. A little farther north, at Hassenhausen, you can visit the monument, just west of the village, marking the spot where the Duke of Brunswick was fatally wounded.

A great weekend trip from Munich would be a visit to the Austerlitz battlefield. You can see my photos at http://www.napoleon-series.org/ (select "Military" and then "Virtual Battlefields"). Nothing beats standing on the Pratzen Heights or the Santon as a peak Napoleonic experience!

In Munich itself, you might want to visit the Sankt-Michael church,
Neuhauserstrasse 52, where there is a fine monument over the tomb of Eugène de Beauharnais.

Happy Military Tourism! [8D]
