Last year we heard big things about software titles. Alot of comparisons were made to the HPS and BG games. The games were going to run circles around us.

Well ... where are they?

John Tiller - still the undisputed Napoleonics King! Three cheers for my boss boys. The lemonades are on me. [:D]

Bill, that said, AGEOD's Napoleonic Game is still due out Q4 this year, and I expect to see it in that time frame (or maybe Q1 next year). They've got a track record, 2 games out using a version of the engine.

That said, it's an entirely different game anyway, complimentary in fact, for those of us who enjoy looking at things Operationally.

Bill,

Yes, I recall the discussions last year. It appears as though both the game and its biggest fan have both faded into obscurity.

Regarding Gary's point about the AGEOD game, hopefully there will be a demo of the game (as there is for their CW game) so we all can give it a look see.

Bill,
Nope, it's a recent announcement (within the last 2-3 weeks)

It's an operational, area movement game.

Here's a review of their ACW offering (it'll be on the same engine, with appropriate adjustments)

Could be good to play the operational game with, and then use the HPS engine to break down into tactical battles with...but it will require a lot of work to make it happen...we did something similar in the old ACWCC years ago...and while fun, it was very labor intensive.

Oh ok. Thought you were referring to that game by Jean-Marie .... (not Barbier). Saw the ACW one and it looks interesting. For me I am banking on Empires in Arms. Cant wait til it comes out.

Bill,

Here is a recent interview with Jean-Michel Mathé: http://www.armchairgeneral.com/articles ... e=1&cat=59
Apparently Histwar: Les Grognards has moved into beta testing and is still very much alive.

Incidentally Armchair General recently reviewed HPS Jena-Auerstaedt and gave it the thumbs up: http://www.armchairgeneral.com/articles ... e=1&cat=59

Good news all round.[:)]

Mike gave Jena a 89 score. Because the campaign scenarios are buried in subfolders he didnt mention that that game has over 400 scenarios. His negative about the campaign engine/types was never explained so I have no idea where he found it to be an issue. Perhaps in the area that it only uses the maps that came with the game? (??? - duh, how else can you portray a battlefield). All in all a nice review. We scored on this one and I hope that it means we get some new members to the club.

For me the HPS Napoleonic and ACW games are easily the best around.
