Have you played some of the variants I put together? The Prussians with L'Estocq or the Russians?

The Prussians have tons of cavalry. Makes life in the open pure madness at times. Almost as bad as facing the Mameluks!

Yes, the Prussians have lots of cav but the French have almost as much. I find that the only way to win is to be really aggressive, because I have not been able to hold a line with the limited infantry for very long, which, at Jena, is historical because by the afternoon they were worn down and fresh french infantry was moving in... I have not played the variants. I have played the historic battle 1.5 times (second battle is about 20 turns from the end) and the big map I have two games going. Against Tomasz, we have each lost about 40,00 men (22000 inf and 20000cav for me and 32000 inf and 100000cav for him) and I still do not have enough inf to properly hold a line against his concentrated army (we are both concentrated north of Auersted).
