Gents,
I think that we have a unique opportunity here. So, we know that when Bill releases a game, it will have enough to keep us busy for a while. And we can be a great pool of playtesters for PBEM specifc scenarios when the game is out.
(1) Looking at Jena, I do not think many scenarios would be hard to "convert" to 2 player. Many would probably just require a VP tweak and more turns. Others perhaps more with arrival and release times etc.
(2) only few scenarios would need serious tweaks and lots of re-testing. But again, we can test and still enjoy it.
(3) campaigns. Bill (and the guy who made Corinth) make the best campaigns by far. Eckmuhl is my favorite "campaign" to play because you get lots of small battles and a large variety of options, culminating in a big battle. Getting this right for PBEM would be my big concern. I have messed around with the campaign editor a few times and it is a lot of work to do well.

my two cents...

Thanks for this Bill ...

I have been playing John Tiller games since Battleground Gettysburg was released in the mid 1990s and the need for titles that cater more to solo players is LONG overdue.

To be frank, after years of gaming I just don't play PBEM anymore (not that there is anything wrong with that).

But after a hectic day at work or on the weekend I still love to fire up a scenario for a few hours or days. I actually stopped playing HPS games for a year until Jena, with some of its solo scenarios, was released.

Perhaps some day John Tiller will come up with a better AI on new titles so that everyone can dig in according to their preference.

In the meantime I look forward to whatever title or titles Bill is refering to that cater to us lone wolves.

Regards, Conjotter

I just like to play the games...I don't care where...Italy, Austria, Russia, Spain or Belgium..... just as long as I'm French and the games keep coming.

Guys we're on a good thing and it keeps getting better, suggestions and feedback are great but in the end whats made is made and they're darned fun and enjoyable games.

Bravo John, Bill, HPS and all involved I for one will buy anything thats put out and Napoleonic [:D]

Why don't all games comes with a list of club's that support them for PBEM and the advantages of PBEM over AI. (Features/benefits stuff). This would only enhance HPS's offering.

At the end of the day we as a club must support the series or its back to BG mods.

Just a thought

Ok, I am dredging this topic up, as I am going to address part of this, from the perspective of a webmaster- in specific a webmaster for the site that HPS links to in all of their titles (per Rich Hamilton's post a lot earlier --- where he mentioned the "opponent finder" page of SDC - and of course is typical of my time these days I am doing this post on a deadline (I may have to cut it short and come back to it). I suspect that not all of the links on the Opponent Finder page are not active (if even exist any longer). It is part of the SDC model to support clubs that supports the HPS series (within one big caveat- they can't also be supporting illegal versions of the engine (as mentioned in other topics - note that this aspect does not apply to this club.).

One of the challenges I believe I am going to face as a webmaster, is collective indifference, especially at what point I go around and ask for a club representative to send me a sales pitch type text for their club so that I can post it in a club area of the site. I know the clubs hosted under the www.wargame.ch domain are all pretty good (well the ones that I am involved with are- I guess I still have to check out all of the here as it seems like some are defunct.). The same will hold true of places like theBlitz and even the Gamesquad ladders for guys that don't want to go for the club experience. As I see it, I can convey the message, but I am not going to be the one to come up with it, that has to be from guys within the club.

That all being said, my main purpose here is as an ambassador for the Scenario Design Center site, and indirectly to HPS itself, by virtue of my working relationship with Rich Hamilton (past/present/future).

-> At any rate I am going to get together a "send me your club's sales pitch" message to some clubs in the near future so that I can do what I can with the site to help out.
