I must confess that Anthony Barlow beat me in the first turn of MOE4.

So let me up my glass to this courageous english officers and please, join my table to drink to his victory.

Anthony, I hope for you all the best for the next turns of the tournament.

Best regards

Marechal Lamezec
Prince et Comte de Davout

Thank you Yann for your generous gesture. But the truth is that this battle could have gone either way, and at one stage I thought I was going to lose. On the first turn I managed to secure a strong position for my artillery which overlooked his approach. From that moment on it was going to be very difficult for the French to shift me from it. But Yann attacked with such boldness and ferocity that he almost succeeded. But I was lucky in that my landwehr refused to break. We both lost about half of our artillery and both enjoyed some success in dramatic cavalry actions and just about fought each other to a standstill. In these small battles one or two instances of luck with melees and routs can tip the balance and in our case neither commander truly dominated the field.

Yes it will be nice to reach round 2 for the first time, but more importantly I can look back and reflect on what an honour it was to do battle with the great Marechal Lamezec, one of our club's true gentlemen. I raise my glass to you Sir!

I should also thank Sir Muddy for creating such a good and balanced scenario. I could see from turn 1 that there was going to be lots of excitement and drama. Looking forward to the next one...
