What is the abbreviation for the word "Herzog" in German?

Erzerzog is ER (or ERZ).

Is Herzog HR (or HRZ)?

Updating the Eckmuhl OB today and wanted to abbreviate the word if I could to save space.

I'd seen Herzog used on the German Wikipedia site as "Hz." - however in checking on a dedicated abbreviation site -- it shows as :
Hzg.

http://abkuerzungen.woxikon.de/abkuerzung/herzog.php

On German language Wikipedia they are claiming that Erherzog is:
Ehzg. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erzherzog <s> there isn't anything on Erherzog showing on the dedicated abbrev site ( which is - very... "unGerman"... :D</s>

I take that back- I must have typed the word in wrong...

http://abkuerzungen.woxikon.de/abkuerzung/ehzg..php Ehzg.

Not much of a savings when you abbreviate-- but that's German for you.... they love combining words in that language ... like Goetterammerdung etc ... not shorten them.

Hzg. and Ehzg. or Erzhzg. are the most common abbreviations.

Question: I have also seen ER on the horse furniture as well and in other places. That is normally how I abbreviate Archduke.

Does anyone see an error with that?

I thought ER is Elisabeth Regina. Never seen it as an abbreviation of Erzherzog. German abbreviations tend to use letters from all over the word (H[er]z[o]g), not the first two.

The proper abbreviation in German is definitely Ehzg., unless you like the somewhat longer Erzhzg. Take my word on it. I have studied this stuff half my life.

Bill, Elizabeth Regina is immediately what I thought of too when I read ER.
