If anyone is into ACW and loved the Take Command games, the developer just released Scourge of War - Gettysburg. Hopefully even better than v.1 and .2, AND THIS TIME WITH MULTIPLAYER and, it says, sandbox gaming (ie. not just the gettysburg terrain). Sounds most excellent. Demo with 2 scenarios.

I'm dying to write "Check it OUT!".

I have the game now. It gives a feeling of both NTW and Histwar Les Grognards at the same time. Great game, great MP facility. I wonder if ACWGC would make this game their official game though it is not pbem.

Unless its PBEM the ACWGC will not allow it I am thinking.

Online games usually are not added to club listings. Maybe they will but I doubt it.

There was some discussion about the units not behaving correctly. Basically they would move by themselves or alter their facing.

Have you seen this happening?

I really like Sid Meier's Gettysburg. I played it online more than any other game I have that plays online. It was a blast. Too daunting to play the entire battle.

I liked the graphics and the way that command control worked.

I have downloaded the demo and will give it a whirl.

FYI for those who did not see this coming: this is basically the next generation engine of Take Command, made by one of the original guys.

I realised that discussion yes, but this is really more accurate than histwar now. There maybe some faults like carriers not using the best route but most of the time your men fighting do a good job against the enemy when you do macro management.

HistWar (Turn based) vs. TC/SoW (Real Time) - kind of hard to compare them.

I would prefer something like HistWar as RTS games are not something I have much time for and playing over the internet can have its own issues (sync mainly).

I like SoW but it doesn't lend itself to the grand tactics of histwar as easily and also plays quite fast too... a little too fast for me above small division level as (at least at the beginning) I'm desperately intervening in weird AI behaviour to push the attacks. Still, I found that I started to enjoy Take Command with large divisions after a bit of play. Alas, the artillery in the ACW era seems dire. Canister just removes 1/3 of a regiment at a go, and over-running a battery requires a lot of clicking attention (strangely attacking skirmishers take single guns and don't continue their charges across a whole battery... which means if you let the AI do the deed (if, indeed, it thinks of it at all) then that single gun gets canistered by the others in the battery...

I can't see myself replaying all of gettysburg with the game. However, I've been dying to have a replacement/upgrade for Sid Meier's Gettysburg for years as there seems to be no multiplaying place for it anymore and I missed that experience when it was popular. :(
