Chandlers Campaigns of Napoleon has a superb section on Napoleons art of war. Master the techniques described and you will be hard to beat!

It's a bit of an old title now but it's still a superb work.

With Musket, Cannon and Sword by Brent Nosworthy is good.

Colonel Bill Peters, 17th Dragoons, III Corps, French Army
HPS Napoleonic Scenario Designer (Eckmuhl, Wagram, Jena-Auerstaedt, Austerlitz and ... more to come)

Warfare in the age of Napoleon - Michael Glover
The Art of Warfare in the age of Napoleon - Gunther E. Rothenberg
Tactics and the Eperience of Battle in the Age of Napoleon - Rory Muir
Napoleonic Infantry - Philip J Haythornthwaite
Napoleomnic Cavalry - Philip J Haythornthwaite

Find and read those and you'll have a good as understanding of the battles and warfare as anyone.
But then there are the Marshals! The Opponants! The Politics, both family, French and European!

Then the man himself - gifted, flawed, revolutionary, luminary, maniacal, workaholic, vastly intelligent and caring. The man who was is the legend. [:D]

I agree with Bill Peters, Brent Nosworthy's With Musket, Cannon and Sword is the best overall account and one which is based largely on memoirs of participants.

Yes that is the book to which Colin is referring Maarten. I have just finished reading it today and agree with Colin's description. When covering the various campaigns Chandler attempts to give as much detail as he can but it must be appreciated that, although it is a large book, he can only give so much as he has a large area to cover.
