Ok - we have had a new game added to the Musket and Cannon Game Club (Rise of Prussia by AGEOD) and last night I got note from a member to add in another title for our club: Medieval 2 which is not the one by Total War but a low budget effort on the period from the 100 Years War thru the Renaissance.
Now my question here for members and Cabinet guys alike is:
Would it be asking TOO much if a rule is adopted that says: All requests to add new games to the club list will be considered only if they are part of an existing series and if not then by four to five members actually completing a game in the title.
The members would receive full credit for any games that they play but they must be registered to the Cabinet first. They would keep a short list of games in progress. Once the game is over then the club would add in the game.
Example: we added in AGEOD's Napoleonic Wars (forget exact title but you get the drift). However, if the game never gets played then it was a waste of Cabinet and Admin time (setting up the auto system to accommodate it).
Better to get the guys that are "hot" for it to FINISH the games and then show the club that they want it in.
And better yet - get it played by more than just two people.
Once the trial games are over then its in for good (unless it dies off due to lack of support from the company or whatever reason).
Example: Rich White is talking about getting Age of Rifles added in. He has yet to make a formal request. However, if Rich and say myself were the only ones playing it and we just quit playing it then the Admin has gone to alot of trouble to add it in to the autosytem and webpages.
Anyway, that is my take on new games. I am thinking of having our guys in the Musket club do the same thing. It will halt the rush for adding in tons of titles too. Play it - then add it.
There is no hidden agenda here by the way for folks that are playing non-HPS games. My concern is with the time it takes to add in new club game titles. I am thinking of Uncommon Valor by Matrix. I asked the Panzer club to add it in and then never played it! I do not know if it ever gets played there. Rick A. had to do some work on the database to get it added in.
Anyway, that is my concept. I am not against adding in games but if its only one or two people and after one or two playings it never gets played again (ever) then it was a waste of time for us guys in admin (in clubs - I am not in admin here).
