The Hanoverian Lt. Colonel reins in his horse at the stable entrance. A quick glance at the other horses in the stable confirms his suspicians. Yes, he is here after all, he thinks to himself. He straightens in his saddle, relieving some of the tension in his back, before deftly dismounting. "Take good care of him", he says with a grin as he hands the stableboy a silver piece, "we still have a long battle in front of us, he and I."
Straightening his uniform, the officer slowly walks toward the Rhine Tavern. The summer heat is stifling. A good, cool drink will be a welcome respite before his many duties compel him to return to his men.
Entering the tavern, he scans the room looking for someone in particular. Ah, both of them are here. Not really surprising, I suppose. Turning to his right, he approaches the bar. "A bottle of your finest French wine please, two glasses and a cold mug of Belgian ale", he says to the beautiful barkeep, Helga. "What, no shots of Jager today?" quieries Helga as she raises an eyebrow. "Not today, my dear" replies the officer. "I will soon need to return to the field", he says as he nods toward two French officers busily pouring over the paperwork scattered across their table, " and I dare not have a muzzy head when I face him again to continue our fight."
As usual, the Hanoverian tips Helga well for her efforts, before picking up the drinks and walking to the table occupied by the two Frenchmen. The Commander-in-Chief of La Grande Armee and his most industrious Chief of Staff are somewhat surprised to see a Hanoverian standing at their table. "I thought you two could use a good drink", says the Lt. Colonel as he sets the bottle and glasses on the table. "Always good to see you Marechal Corbin. And to you sir," he continues as he turns to Marechal Jensen, "a grand fight you are giving me. You have earned my utmost respect. I did not realize until today that you were undefeated in fourteen conflicts. Perhaps I have bitten off more than I can chew?" A wry grin spreads across Marechal Jensen's face at this last remark. "Cheers, gentlemen!" toasts the Hanoverian Lt. Colonel, "may two fine officers such as yourselves forever remain safe amid the perils of battle!"
