This is just a noob's idea and no doubt totally out of place... nevertheless,

I am made aware by the comments in the presidential process that there is some issue about battles being registered etc etc and that the idea is to have one active battle at a time.

My experience of web based clubs previously is the excellent 'WeBandofBrothers' club dedicated to the Combat Mission WW2 games. There the requirement is to register a battle every 3 months. Otherwise the 'Minister of Defence' sends you an email asking what's up before scratching you off the membership list (unless you provide good reason - like an ongoing battle soon to be registered). 'Roll Calls' of endangered members are published monthly.

Registering results of battles is done by victors, usually, and only at the end of the battle. It's done onto a locally made system called 'BoBster' that just provides the fields that, I presume, at NWC are available to administrators.

Would it help with the 'paperwork' for Army/Corps commanders if some elements of this were adapted for NWC? I have registered the start of at least one battle to see the opponent drift away not to be seen again... (other NWC opponents have drifted without the need to register(!)) A waste of the administrator's time (& mine) that would be relieved if it were just the results that were registered. Still, the registration process (rather than results) presumedly answers a need identified years ago?...

I don't know how long a typical Tiller game takes to play PBEM and thus what an acceptable time period would be for NWC. I think for CM it'd be about 4-6 weeks, so a 12 week requirement for a battle registration means you don't have to bust a gut getting them done and allows for real life to get in the way of what we'd rather be doing! More experienced hands will comment....

Anyway, just an idea..

Three months would not work here as some scenarios can take up to 1.5 years to play. And some folks ONLY play the big battles.

I was in BoB for a bit and the end game registration idea was good. I thought of using it in our Musket and Cannon Game club as well.

Sounds like something that should be looked at in depth. There has to be a better way then the way it is currently done. When the idea to have a member always have a game was put forward it was because te club was new. We only had a half a dozen members at the time. The concept is no longer relevant and can be used/abused by some.

These are the types of ideas and knowledge sharing that we need to move this club forward to improve it's processes and procedures.
