Given the way command works in our games only a poor player would put a field marshal or army commander in the front line. Especially given the somewhat alarming rate officers can die at.

Therefore I would expect most coalition officers would do just that    .

Besides we French officers are now so heavily weighed down with our numerous awards now days that we must be careful about our movements as all of this gold and silver is heavy.

Whaaaa, you mean you don't put your best leaders in the front?

When you were teaching me how to play these games, you kept stressing the importance of doing exactly that. Oh, you heartless French devil. You were trying to trick me weren't you?

Actually, just to clarify my point, I certainly agree that you do not place your Army Commander out in front of everything else. I support the maintenance of all leaders within their command radii. What I don't support is moving the Army Commander 1,256 hexes away from the army in the older games that do not have a Command Radii for these leaders. That just seems wrong to me. I expect my leaders to remain with their troops at all times which, in fact, they always do. In truth, these leaders are very valuable in rallying and reordering troops as long as they are kept safe. In the old PTW game, if you are not using Blucher and Gneisenau to rally the Prussians at Ligny, you will have absolutely no hope of holding your defensive line. :P :P :P

Nah, I am not tightly wound......I'm gamey just like Colin and you! OK, probably more gamey than you. You see, I can actually score a nice medal if I ever manage to capture that Corsican twirp, and the further you gentlemen locate him from the fighting, the harder it is going to be for me to cash in on that award!

In a brutal little battle at Austerlitz some years ago, Colin spent his time merrily capturing or killing nearly every leader I had. Of course, he killed almost every horse and soldier that I had as well, but I digress. My point is that since that fine outing, my leaders are much better protected and harder to injure. I never send my Army Commander away from his army, but by the time you get to him, there really won't be much of an army left anyway.
