No, I actually have not forgotten about the Prussians, but I would submit to you that no general (in the coalition) other than Wellington could have held as he did that day with what he had and against those odds long enough for Herr Blucher to arrive.

June 18, 1815 - A day in history where it was far better to be in the Coalition than opposed to it.

Blucher and his army won the battle of Waterloo not Wellington. Napoleon was actually quite brilliant in the 1815 campaign and only Blucher's enormous will and his very capable chief of staff prevented what could easily have gone down as one of Napoleon's great campaigns against all odds.

In my opinion Wellington's performance in this campaign is extremely over rated. British empire propaganda.
Regards to all from Wellington capital of New Zealand.

I am only talking about Wellington's tactical ability on the battlefield itself. He had issues in other areas, but when he was defending on the field, he was one of the very best there ever was.

The Battle of Waterloo was not won by Blucher and the Prussians, nor was it won by Wellington and the Anglo-Allies. The Battle of Waterloo was won, because they both did what they do best and worked together as a team. Had there been any other commander in charge of each of these armies, the Battle of Waterloo would most likely have been won by Napoleon and the French Army.

The handling of Wellington's movements prior to Waterloo left much to be desired, but a lack of battlefield tactical acumen was not one of his faults. The French Army was much superior on that day to the Anglo-Allied Army as a whole. Wellington chose the ground, and held it. You cannot discount his contribution to the victory on June 18, 1815.

Coalition teamwork won the day.

Credit and blame must be shared amongst all the senior commanders.

Wellington chose the field.

Blucher promised support. However, I think Gneisenau deserves the greater share of the credit for keeping the Prussians intact after what could have been a disastrous defeat at Ligny.

Napoleon had little time and few options but had to press the attack even after it became clear that the Prussians were coming in force and that Grouchy had failed to keep them at bay.

I would agree with General Guegan on the "had to go back home" portion of his statement. :| :) :D

At least he does admit to a 'tactical withdrawal' in 1812, which is more than I have ever been able to obtain from Marechals Bardon and Knox as for some reason thier Napoleonic timeline never progresses past Tilsit.

The Duke of Wellington. But who else could it be but the overall victorious commander, just like in the games I am playing now. I think it was "drink what ever was available" that tipped me over the top.

Geez, I thought after I was done with school I would have to take any more test or quizzes. You guys at the NWC are so demanding.

What is this about invading our ally the Tsar's territory? According to the deal we struck at Tilsit I can never see this being a possibility.
Especially as the Emperor has just finished skewering the hapless Austrians at Wagram.
Only the loss of our beloved Lannes makes worried about the future.

General Knox

:-) Mikhail Kutuzov :-)

Spooky or what - the only battles I seem to win (including American Civil War) are those covered by Napoleon in Russia.
