Gentlemen & French Officers ;-)

I have just received HPS Campaign Eckmuhl, Installed it, updated it and added the divine Divine's mod.

I now realise that as I am already old and grey I may not have time to look at all the scenario's in it!

As you probably know I am not a history buff just enjoy the challenge of the game. I know nothing of this campaign. Which is a step down even for me!

I seek advice from honorable gentlemen and French officers ;-) on where to start in my education of this campaign.

I have at hand a large container of salt to take with the French suggestions ;-) but at least those will guide me where not to go ;-)

I am no expert on this campaign either.

I won't comment on the overall campaign in this game as I generally just play scenarios. One of my favourite scenarios in this and one many of the older club members have all played a few times is 'Hunting Davout' a great tournament type scenario with lots of dead ground room for manuever and interesting 'fog of war' also its a large map based so very interesting.

I have played it a few times over the years.

Salute

Salute!

I am a big fan of the Eckmuhl game for the variation of scenarios it offers.
Not such a fan of how the scenario titles are listed in the main menu though.

You really need to look at the scenarios one at a time and pay attention to the alphabetical and numerical listing for them - because otherwise you just see Eckmuhl listed 50 times!

Once you explore the scenarios you will find that there are usually a historical version of the battle along with multiple alternative versions that add or take away forces for each side.

The campaign game (500+ turns) is a monster indeed, just the kind I like to play - and I find it a very tough challenge for the French - that it may truly take a genius of Napoleon to overcome the errors of Berthier in implementing the Master's deployment at the beginning.

There is a version (much like the Six Day's scenarios in Jena-Auerstadt) that allows both sides to choose their own deployments - which I prefer over the historical version. Keeps the opposing players honest, as it were.

I have played an Abensberg scenario, several Eckmuhl scenarios, Hunting Davout, and currently involved in the R&H mod of the full campaign scenario - which has a thread somewhere here in the tavern, that probably needs updating.

Regards,
