Gentlemen,

According to the section 5.3.1. of the Club rules "any active member, or group of active members, may organize a tournament". In order to do so one must send a message to the Cabnet members that includes, among other things:
The format of the tournament;
The rules to be used including any house rules;
The eligibility requirements for the tournament participants.
(Didn't I tell you I'm a hardcore bureaucrat now :frenchlol: )

As it was said before, it’s my belief that the sooner we have a Club-wide tourney, the better it would be for the society. Before committing to anything and regardless of who would be organizing it we need to understand what people want. So several questions to the membership about the tournament they would be most interested to take part in:

1. What format of a tournament would you be most interested in:

a. Play-off scheme, as Master of Europe.
b. Team-on-Team scheme, as Guards Challenges or the cancelled SON-2014. One battle for each player.
c. Team-on Team scheme with multiple battles and opponents rearranged according to their success in battles.
d. Other.

2. Who should be admitted:

a. All the members together, regardless of their experience.
b. Only Guards (or other veteran members).
c. Only novice members.
d. Only the “middle class” (major-colonels, not guard).
e. b-c-d in separate divisions, like SON-2013 .
f. Mixed teams, like SON-2013 MP round.
g. Other

3. What scenarios you’d prefer to use:

a. Stock scenarios selected by players.
b. Stock scenarios assigned by the organizers.
c. Custom made scenarios, with an option for players to choose which one to play.
d. Custom made scenarios assigned by organizers, but with a possibility to study it before playing.
e. Custom made, blind scenario.
f. Other.

4. Single battle vs. mirror battle.

a. Single.
b. Mirror.
c. Other.

5. What setting do you prefer:

a. Like in NRC and Waterloo.
b. Like in old Eckmuhl and Wagram, i.e. 15 min turns.
c. Like in Jena and further on, i.e. 10 min turns.
d. H&R.
e. Company level.
f. Other.

6. What engine would you prefer to use:

a. Mix of the “old ones” from HPS/JTS.
b. Single one from the “olds” from HPS/JTS.
c. JTS Buonaparte’s Peninsular War.
d. I like “Old school” – NiR, PTW, BGW.
e. What else we have?

Salute!

Hi Anton,

Are you aware of the tournament that is presently being organized?
Topic thread can be found at the top of this forum.

Officers from both club armies are in the process of putting the final touches on getting it ready to go.

Regards,

I would love to see Master of Europe back and simple knock out one in all in.
But as Todd says we have a current tourney.

Todd,

You mean the SON-2014. I was supposed to provide a couple of scenariof for the House rules part of it. Since Mark's leave I had the only mail regarding this tournament stating that:
1. SON-2014 will not happen.
2. Just the same tournament would be organised in another club.
3. This other club is just the same NWC, but with blackjack and hookers, so please join at...
Nothing more.

From all the mess I concluded that the scenario just like it was in not to happen. And before committing anyone to anything at all I decided to ask the guys what do they want.

The Coalition Contingent commanders had been discussing getting the SoN off the ground. Would you want to help? Mostly we need to do the pairings etc. Todd has thought this through more but it was his thinking that if we have one French army person and one Coalition person we can fire this tourney up.

Anton, judging from the wording of the email you relate to, it sounds like not something sent by the other club.

From the language, I could hazard a guess (in private) as I have received many emails with similar usage of language before.

But back to our tourney.

Yes, it is being organized, as the template is in place.
At the moment leaders from both armies are working together to get it going.
Matching officers and games/scenarios as we speak.

I would say to you though, it is never too early to be preparing for a future tournament.
The questions you asked around it are very important.

Feel free to carry on with your ideas (and Colin, your suggestion was good too).

Regards,
