Recently I convinced my brother to purchase and play Bonaparte's Peninsular War in order to introduce him to the Napoleonic era and warfare. He is familiar with the WDS American Civil War series as well as Panzer Campaigns. We've played a couple of small, short scenarios to allow him to get a feel for the game. However, I am not familiar enough with the scenarios myself to know which scenarios are balanced in terms of game play. He will play the French and I the Allies. I am looking for recommendations and suggestions from the group.

Thank You!

I have not played this one for a while and not on the latest update version, but from my past experience I can make a few comments. The British and Portuguese under British command are the best troops and the Spanish are the worst (no offense to my Spanish friends). The French are in the middle. French and Spanish leadership is usually average to poor, the Anglo-Portuguese good to excellent. Bailen is the battle where the Spanish have the best chance to win alone against the French IMO. They also won the historical battle. Talavera is the crown jewel of the game and is a tough win for the French. There are some unfixed variants of both of these scenarios which I believe help with the play balance. Talavera is much larger than Bailen so keep that in mind.

Hi Dwain, if you check the games that are noted as being eligible for PBEM you won't go too far wrong. Also reviewing the various options available for Talavera will give you a good game. I've played quite a few scenarios from Bonaparte in the Peninsular and haven't come across one that I haven't enjoyed yet.
