I<i> just try to follow Descartian principle to put at question everything, that is not absolutely obvious. It's the matter of attitude, the matter of posing the question. I treat a statement "Napoleon was a genius" not as an underlying principle of the universe but as a working hypothesis that can prove right or wrong. More often wrong than right as it turns out so far.</i>

Maybe genius is to strong of a word for Napoleon Anton, I do think he was gifted in many ways. As I said before you have to look at the man's entire life not just one or two campaigns in isolation. If nothing else he had an amazing capacity for details and an enormous energy for work especially in his younger years. To me his life was quite impressive.

I agree with all your points about the complexity of what makes a good cavalry arm. [:)]
