Sorry I really did not participate much tonight, guys. I had a (fairly) good idea of a post, but it was a story and I never could get it completed. There have just been too many distractions tonight. It has been pretty terrible few days lately. I had a bridge collapse on one of my jobs last Friday (no, not one of mine!). Even though we were not directly involved, and there was no damage to the adjacent railroad, my client still wants me to write up an analysis of the failure so that is can be avoided in the future. Very fortunately, no one was killed. There were two of the Contractor's men that were very, very lucky. If the bridge had collapsed ten minutes later, they would have been in a fatal position. This morning, I was informed that a steel worker on another of my projects had fallen from a bridge about 30' onto concrete. He will also live, but he was hurt pretty badly. This accident generated interviews with OSHA, site personnel and, of course, another lengthy and detailed report to my client. And then I was told that my Senior Engineer's mom passed away last night. Oh, and my car failed its emission test today. What do you figure the odds are that a policeman will see my two day old expired tags and give me a ticket on my way to the repair shop to replace the stupid sensor that caused the emission test to fail? Hmmmmm? Dang near guaranteed to happen from my perspective.
Now, having said all that, I do have two playtest game turns yet to complete tonight. Doubtless that all my units will rout from the field, but they must, nevertheless, be done.
Al, we would love to have you join the Anglo-Allied Army, but I personally have no authority to negotiate a deal. Marco is the only one that can do that, and he is currently out of the country. I have sent him an email to notify him of this thread. Unfortunately, that is about the best I can do.
If you would like to join The Rat and me, I am sure I can create a spot for you among my beloved Hanoverians. We really do not have horses, so we end up walking a lot, but it does give us time to get to know one another. Regarding the unit to which you are assigned, I have a rather different philosophy than many others. The glory heaped upon the unit by historical actions means absolutely nothing. The true glory of the unit to which you are assigned is you. It is whatever you make of it. Command it well, bring honor to your army and look to the well being of your men. There are many in this club who would be offended, or at the very least disappointed, by an assignment to a militia unit. I am not such an officer. I am proud to be a Hanoverian. I am proud of every active officer serving in my command. I would also be proud to have you join us. There are only two rules on which I must insist....1.) That you participate as an active officer and.......2.) That you conduct all of your battles fully clothed! (Yes, I suppose the whiskey barrel would count so long as we paint it red).
