Salut!

Now, now Mike. There are a lot more battles to choose from than Waterloo and the French made blunder after blunder as well. Spain, Russia, Germany 1813/14, Belgium.... 8) More than Wellington showed promise and more showed victory..... :P

But Nappy's vanity is what drove him down....

Needless to say, a salute to all who fought in the wars. Austerlitz is a very special battle I would agree. The French version of my Leipzig... 8)

Napoleon, like Lee, knew his opponents. On the battlefield he was the master. Strategic warfare is another subject altogether and diplomatically I think he was a bit daft.

The French nation was ready for a Napoleon. Austria was not. It took a domineering leader to bring some order out of the chaos that was the French rev. Napoleon had a brilliant if eccentric mind. He had a way of either causing men to love him or bitterly hating him. But he was admired for his brilliance and had the European nations been willing to modernize their general staffs like Prussia did in 1808-13 they too may have been able to "get there with the mostest" and beat him.

I like how Goetz and Bowden (the former brought to light things that the latter missed) have reduced the amount of Allies at Austerlitz - down from the 87k that was the accepted size of the Russian and Austrian combined armies down to something like 76k.

I had thought of putting together a "Traditional OB" for the folks that do not believe Goetz but Paco steered me away from it.

Austerlitz IS the most evenly matched battle in the Nap series for its size and once the update gets out for the game some of the errors in my victory levels will be corrected. We need to let Leipzig be out on the market for a bit and once we have noted any errors in the engine and fixed them then we will put out updates sometime after that (at a time I am not sure of so please to not ask me about the date).

This is much better than bantering politics of today! I have over 300 books on Napoleon and the Napoleonic Era and his only real blunder was his invasion of Russia. Other than that everything else is anti-Climatic in my opinion. But alas I am sure we will get disagreement on that as well.

But it is fun to trade barbs..........

Happy Austerlitz Day and I started my first battle in the new JTS Leipzig (Dennewitz) today with my good friend and enemy Daniel Cohen.
