Jeka doesn't participate and doesn't have a vote....to be honest the representation of the Coalition rotates....the Prussians were on for six years under me and he Austrians had Gary McClellan for quite a number of years.

The appointments have always been, just someone expresses interest and the Cabinet is usually ok with the person.

Personally at this point I have no idea why anyone would want to serve on that August Body....

Dear all,

Some remarks about the cabinet workings and how to become a member etc.

I find it a tough job to be a cabinet member, and I am certainly not there because of the name, the 'management' role or what so ever. I became a member because I became the CiC of the Allied part of the NWC. I never volunteered, and it is always more work then I prefer. I became the CiC because no other army commander was willing to take the post, by the way.
I hardly play games in the last years because all this 'management' work. Indeed, in the past the Austrian commander was the CiC, and thus he was the cabinet member. So please do not see this post as 'high ranking' or 'powerful". Just be happy that a small group of people are putting so much time into this! We do our best. We cannot do more. I personally can not spend more time into this as what I do at this moment.

The reason that we have 5 voting members is that in that way we always have a result if it comes to voting.

The reason that Jeka is a non-voting members is because it was his own wish.

The reason that we have 5 voting members only is that more then 5 will make it impossible to reach any conclusion about any matter.

Why is the Allied CiC always a cabinet member? Well, because this was the case since the start of the club in 1998. And it is not a bad thing. I see no problem in this.

Was it urgent to appoint Mr Kling to the post? Yes it was. It it comes to voting we need 5 members. This can be needed any day. And we were all happy he volunteered. Perhaps not very democratic, but in the NWC there are only elections for the president. Perhaps we need to change this if the members request this.

Some people say that the cabinet is not balanced (2 members from the French side, 3 from the Allied at the moment). In the past we also had it the other way round. But it doesn't matter. The club cabinet has nothing to do with armies. Therefore it's called a cabinet, and not a general staff. We take decisions for the best interest of the NWC in general. In many cases I voted even against idea's brought forward by Allied members. Thus, cabinet members should think further then armies alone. If they cannot do that they have no place in the cabinet.

Hope this clarifies something. If you have any questions, just ask.

Al,
Al, you know what I think. I have a lot of respect for your work for this club and I know that at the expense of personal time that you can spend even the ... turning battles. But I beg you, do not take longer new promotion for a few days, we have to stop drinking. After that bourbon which we drank last I have a terrible hangover.

I can attest that Marco was approached and did not volunteer for the Allied CiC when Gary McClellan stepped down. It was the only logical choice as I was already on the Cabinet. Marco was the AAA AC and he agreed to do it. He has a rather decent job and he does not always vote the way of the Coalition the whole time. He has shot down quite a few of my requests as well, which is fine. :)

Congratulations Al on becoming the Club Secretary and on serving on the Executive. I wish you well in this experience and hope that it does not interfere with you gaming too much. Take care. Bill
