Indeed our friends the Americans certainly saved our a..e in ww2. My Grandfather served with them at Guadalcanal.
Americans can certainly be proud of many things and perhaps less proud of some (insert CIA/NSA etc here).
Such is the nature of the world really.

We certainly owe the US down here which for me will never be forgotten.

Lieutenant Barrett, I am damn (that would be 'bloody' to you) proud to be in the same army with you! Like John, I laughed my ass (that would be 'bum' to you) off while reading your post. Superbly written, sir!

David, I love you buddy. Your nationality does not make a whit of difference to me. I respect it, but honestly, I see you as a fellow gamer. I take people as individuals, with all the good and bad qualities that we all possess. I met some wonderful people in Normandy. I encountered some rude individuals in Paris. But I have also encountered rude individuals in London, Amsterdam, Buffalo, Chicago, and every other large city that I have ever visited in my life. It is a function of population and proximity, more than anything to do with the country in which the city is located. If you ever make it to Atlanta, I can show you some rude people here as well. I guarantee that there are some great folks in every one of the aforementioned cities. Most of them are, in fact. :) :D

Like the rest of you, I am sure, I am very proud of my country. I am also quite ashamed of some things. No system in the world is perfect, no matter what the people currently running it want you to believe. The key is to focus on the good things wherever you find them. There are good things everywhere. You just have to pay attention. :? :o :P

Never, under any circumstances, blindly accept what someone tells you. Think for yourself. It is the only way to operate in my experience.

Amen to that! I agree with you not blindly ( ) but because I experienced it too! Most of the time ignorance/fear of the unknown make people hate other people, knowledge and curiosity are often the key to exceed the initial feeling.

“If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?"

I have been to Atlanta (the French consulate is there) a few times before I met you here

Anyway to go back to the initial topic, we had tonight fireworks with friends in Charlotte.

Nothing like a bit of Billy Shakespeare to lighten the mood.

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers
for he today who sheds his blood with me shall be my brother
Be he near so vile this day shall gentle his condition.
And gentlemen in England now abed....etc

You know Shakespeare truly is a genius, he seemed able to capture the essence of the human condition in but a few eloquent words as General Guegan quotes.

Perhaps our Russian brothers have something in the Russian playbook to compare as there are many great Russian literary giants.

Helga a round here for General Guegan and all at this table.

We missed the fireworks again this year. It has been raining here for the past two days, so a lot of the shows were cancelled. Teri is really not up to it anyway. I did get her out of the house for lunch today. That is one of those good things. Small, but something. Each and every day, we take whatever little things we can get. :P

To all you fine Englishmen out there, some of whom have grown to be very good friends, we Americans did seriously consider your offer to rejoin the Crown again this year. I am afraid that once again, the twelve dozen committees that we appointed to provide the citizenry with the necessary facts required to make an informed decision in this matter could not come to an agreement or consensus. As a result, for the 236th year in a row, they decided to postpone any action on the matter until next year. Our President, Cabinet and Congress could not be located for comment. It seems they were off somewhere spending our tax money on themselves. They will no doubt reappear when they need more funds.

Hey, wait a minute. Did someone mention drinks? Well, count me in!

The fireworks I saw yesterday evening were an excellent reminder of how lucky I am for many things in my life, one of which, is that I'm a member of this amazing club and I feel blessed to have met each and everyone one of you on these boards and battlefields!! Drinks can put under Scott's tab he assured me years ago that this would be fine!! :)

To Arms!!!

Regards Gentlemen!!
