Actually funny you guys mention squares. During an epic struggle with Sir Muddy at Waterloo / Wavre I used a new system to meet the late Prussian onslaught. Its an 'active defense' using squares and artillery as key components. It works very well and is partly covered in a post on combined arms tactics I put up in Pierre's. Sounds like other officers are doing it too! Not sure if I can take any credit for that though.

I am about to post on this system in more depth in Pierre's so expect more of it from the mighty LGA! It seems to me defense is hard in these games and you need to think about how to do it within the system. Actually I believe Wellington often used something similar.

One of tricks is not to let your...... <confidential French eyes only>

Congratulations Colin on finally managing to pull that baton out of your knapsack!

It is an honor well deserved and most fitting.

Cheers!

Oh, Lord! I remember that fight. Those squares stymied Blucher's attack and prevented the Prussians from saving the day. :? :?

Jim was my first opponent in this club. We played Aspern Essling and it was a near run thing. We then played Wagram and Znaim and I must say they were great games and I really enjoyed playing our club's Archduke Charles!

Jim you are a fine fellow my friend and we must cross swords again soon. I trust the windy city treats you well.
