Cliff, you do not have 1,240 people reading your Prussian Battle thread. You actually only have ten different people reading it. To know how mant different people are reading a particular thread, you divide the total number of times the thread has been read by the number of posts made to the thread. In the case of your Prussian Battle thread, this would be 1,240/124=10 different readers. Another way to think about this is that 10 people have read 124 posts once each which gives a total of 1,240 readings.

There is no security issue with either our email addresses or our forums.

The information on the number of posts made to a particular thread, and the number of times a thread has been read, is clearly listed in each forun for all to see.

I don't understand your question about an email that was sent in October.

Mark,
I always thought it was more complicated that that---if someone views but does not post it still counts as a view, correct? But Cliff, I think if I view each new post once, and you make 15 posts, that makes 15 views but still only one of me!

Regarding emails, for some armies they are listed on the web site. And by some I mean the Austrian, I do not know about the others. But regardless, I see mass mailings form people as an abuse of club etiquette. Post here or send me a personal email, but not mass mailings about club politics..

If you look in the records there are lots of email addresses listed there, I found someones I was interested in just a little while ago.

This raises a few questions, the first, as is noted in this thread, is the unacceptability of doing mass emails in the club other than elections and the rare club-wide notification. The second, of course, is whether or not we should have our emails on the army pages, which are public---it is an antiquated practice predating spam bots. I shall have to talk with Andy and Ian about this...

Yes, if someone views a thread, but does not post, it does count as being viewed.

All of he emails of the NWC members can be accessed by any member of the NWC. They are stored in our DoR System behind a password protection as referenced in the PDF file I created for the instructions as to the use of our DoR System. This PDF has long been posted as an announcement in this forum to serve as a permenant reference for our members.

Salute!

As Mark indicated the surest formula for trying to estimate how many actual viewers one has of a thread/posts, is to divide the number of views by the number of posts.

That will give a mean total that when compared to nearly every thread in the forums will match up.

There are not thousands of visitors to our web page/forums.
The total on hand at any one time is tracked at the bottom of each forum page, and at the bottom of the main index page.

The most ever was 150+ on one night - I witnessed it.
Were they real visitors or bots, no one can be sure.

in general there are usually only 3 - 10 individuals on our web page at any one time.

As for member emails, these are found listed only in the muster page of the DoR/Game Registration section.
This is password protected - you have to be a member of the club (or using someone's username/password) to access this information.

Also, some members will unwittingly write their email addresses in forum posts, usually in the Opponent's Forum...
This allows a non-member of the club who is able to view our public forums to gain that information.

The smart members never do this.
The next step down is to type out the spelling for 'at' symbol, or 'dot' symbol, etc, as this throws off the bots.

As for use or control of membership emails, it is common sense that one should not make use of club wide mass email unless it is for official club business (the Cabinet) or army mailings (LGA, Corps, Coalition, etc).

However, common sense should really be understood as 'uncommon' sense.

Any member who has ever received an official club wide email, or bothers to take the time to fill their contact lists with the membership addresses can do with it whatever they desire.

And you should know them by their actions, and treat of them accordingly.

Regards,
