Yes well some believe first hand accounts and researched comment, then there are the "official" histories, both national and regimental and lastly there is opinion.

Which we all have in the first instance [;)].

Haha very true everyone does!! [:)] History is a fun animal. First hand accounts can be just as skewed as the rest and often worse. Sometimes it takes a good 300 years and a cross language study for the truth to come out. [:)] One of my history professors told us once, as long as you have the citations to back it up, you can say anything you want and be right!! [:)][:D]

Yes it seems the further from the event the more accurate assessment is achieved. The emotion and bias are removed and the facts gathered for the more complete and balanced view is then obtained.
Yes it was the Prussians who ultimately enabled the defeat of Napoleon but I must admit had Wellington not been there it would have made all the difference (like wise Davout at Auerstaedt).
Wellington and Blucher both blundered at the start but recovered well, where as Napoleon's plan and initial operational execution were masterful, his brilliance and execution failed as the hours ticked by.

But from whatever angle, nation or level you look at it - My God it was a near run thing!!

Oh God I totally agree. No way in hell could Prussia have stood without the Anglo's. I never refuted that, we would have been spanked to all oblivion. [:p] But 1813-15 shows what was needed many years back. A complete resolve to all the Allies to work together. That is one of the main reasons Napoleon was around so long, he was masterful at playing one side off another, but he never had the full weight of all of them on him at once until 1813-15.

Napoleon is histories greatest soldier IMHO
He fought more battles and more campaigns than any other commander in history and even by 1815 he was still the master.

I have dedicated my life to a study of his methods and I would argue no one approached his intuitive almost super human capabilities.

Can you tell I am a Napoleonite! [:D]

Your right of course, it took the combined political, economic and military might of all the Monachist states to quell him, twice!

Truely he was a man with a range of skills, energy, intelligence, charisma, foresight and yes luck (however luck is often the residue of design!)like no other in history less maybe Alexander.

On a slightly different tac, although ultimately he must take the blame, I would say on the 18 June 1815 Napoleon's subordinates, troops and luck had been exhuasted and together failed him completely.

But still, so nearly a stunning campaign and battle victory!

He was more than just a great commander he was an Age.

Monsieur’s greetings from Gator land and de Gulf de Mexico, I have to say that if the men that he trained that were in the Allied Armee if they would have came back to the colors it would have been a great victory, ex – Guard commanders were beating him in the Allied ranks train men that fought for France were now fighting for a new master! Freedom defeated him nothing else ma ami. Some homme follow blood I follow the Revolution,he would have been nothing if it was not for that! Swinye-toi [:D][8D]

Believe it or not I am quite the Nappy fan myself. I love the whole period and everyone in it. As the French CiC at the INWC, I live a dual personality life between there and here! [:D] It often leaves me sleepless at night...oh wait that is the moonshine Bill Peters sends me...[:p]

But seriously...I trump him up in our forum over there and pounce on the Allies! I enjoy being on both sides....

BTW Mike...you haven't mustered there in a while! [:D] Drop me an email... eric2900@aol.com We've got two Tourney's ready to launch if you are interested....
