Part VI deadliest warrior;
When we think of Waterloo the first thing that comes to mind is how FM Blucher pushed his troops to come to the aid of his Allied the British.
But was it Blucher that should get all the awards or was it another?
As the mighty Middle Guard of Napoleon were advancing on another part of the battle field another mighty warrior was doing the same the same man that fought like a lion held the Emperor up on the 14th and 15th now was once aging attacking the last stand of the Imperial Guard.
As the French were advancing wrote the Marquess of Anglesey, back in the dip near Frisch Ermont General Muffling had to ride down and stop this mighty warrior and his brigade from attacking the Netherlands troops of Perponcher.
These Nassauers, and the 28th Netherlands line regiment, were dressed in the blue coats and the grey trousers and white belting, and were therefore very similar in dress and appearance to the French.
General Muffling then ordered this deadliest warrior to march his troops to Wellington’s left flank.
Lt. Col von Reiche wrote; the first people we came upon were the Nassau troops forming the left wing of the English army, and it was not long before I met General Muffling who was attached to Lord Wellington’s headquarters.
From him I learned that the duke was anxiously awaiting our arrival and had repeatedly declared that time was running very short for him and his Allies. It was urgent that our deadliest warrior, link up with that wing;and I was to direct the corps accordingly … On returning to the battle –field I found the situation had deteriorated said General Muffling, I assured Lord Wellington over and over that he was coming!
Captain von Scharnhorst who was now a Lt. General and inspector of Artillery who was at that time on Prince Blucher’s staff dashed up to me shouting that the deadliest warrior’s Corps must push on immediately to the Prince who was beyond Frischermont. I said Lt. Col von Reiche, what had been arranged between General Muffling and Lord Wellington but Scharnhorst would not listen to me!
Scharnhorst said that he would hold me reasponsible for any consequences if I did noe carry out Prince Blucher’s orders!
At that very moment the deadliest warrior came ridding up to me and my halted troops stormed at me in his usual violent manner and insisted that we advance not towards Prince Blucher but towards Lord Wellington!
He went to the head of the corps and led them past Frischermont, the right to Papelotte the center of the Corps towards Plancenoit and the left towards Plancenoit by way of Chapelle St Lambert road and Prince Blucher.
The deadliest warrior took his brigade thus turned and took the central road up and out of the dip towards Papelotte and the very hinge of Napoleon’s two lines at the right angles.
Suddenly, from the Smohain dip, rising to the crest of the miniature amphitheatre came our deadliest warrior and like the forur horseman of the Apocalyse, death was ridding a pale horse and behind him was hell!
His brigade, nearly 2,500 infantrymen in a Prussian Attack column which drove straight into the plain, its fusiliers battalions fanning out right and left, rolling up d’Erlon’s line and Lobau’s left flank.
They drove befor them what was left of Durutte’s reduced commandwho had survived the onslaught of the 3rd Netherlander’s Div and the volly of the 52nd British Light Infantry.
Behind our deadliest warrior came Lutzow’s cavalry brigade of 1300 troopers with only blood in their eyes remember 06 was on the mind of these Hun’s! Followed by yet more yelling and killing Huns of Treskow’s brigade, another 2000 killing devil’s from the far reaches of Prussia, Apollyon should have been the name of our deadliest warrior!
He placed vhis Artillery near the crest of the dip, and he fired on both of the emperor’s flanks.
The effect on the poor French was shattering for to long have they also gave this to their enemies now it was their turn to fell Apollyon fury!
The Lie that the Emperor told them was even more disarming to many of the old vet’s that remembered how he left them in Spain and how he left them in Russia to march or die!
He drove a wedge right towards La Belle Alliance some 1,000 yards behind the French! As both wings of the Gran Armee widen the Emperors army was cut into two halves.
The next horseman was panic it started to ride up and down the French line.
The deadliest warrior by disobeying his masters orders ( Prince Blucher) has destroyed Napoleons last hope for an Empire utterly! The deadliest warrior General Zeithen wins hands down!
