I am disgusted with the tone of many of the replies to this topic.

Check out the Panzer Campaigns Clash Of Arms Tavern. Those replying there are enthusiastic about the game. We need more players & fewer critics. Imagine how great this system of plot & simultaneous move might go for warfare in the Napoleonic era or any other.

In case you don't know how this works I'll let you in on a secret: the developers come up with a new idea & implement it. We support this R & D by buying the game. The more that buy the more likely it is that the game engine will be self-sustaining enough to see more titles produced.

I would have expected many of those who have posted would have set a more positive tone or would have refrained from posting at all.

The main thing for me at least is, they have a great engine now! [:)] It surpasses Talonsoft, now spend sometime with some of the graphics. Punic Wars is a huge boost! [:)] Were not asking for Rome Total War Graphics, but I don't expect what I get in the ACW line either, which I why I don't buy that line until I see Rolf Hall or Antony Barlow make a ground/unit/building Mod. We don't need the 3D aspect of Total War, it's not good for our games, but it would be nice to see some improvements now. You made good choices in HPS Waterloo with unit.bmps thankfully, but now like I said work on the buildings. It's not like you need to draw everyone, you just need to redo the .bmp with the auto-generated ones in it. That shouldn't take forever...[:D] The units themselves are great, and I am sure folks can apply a ground Mod. But do I pay $50 or higher after shipping for them direct from HPS, NO, I get them cheaper from Naval Warfare.

I agree with Dale that we support the R&D which has done a great job, now build on one of the final parts that needs it. I think you'll have a lot of folks who are on the fence jump over.

You can hire great people like Don Trioani without paying for them...[:)][:D] Look at the EAW line, magical if you ask me.

Hi Yann

By the way, Dean, please, will you teach the basic of this new game ?

Yes i would be happy to help and teach anyone the basic run of the game....

Also There is going to be a new club...and there will be Training there for any one ....that wants to see the best way to play this game..One or two other Testers will also be there to help...

More about the club will be on the Link Rich has down...
That will be tomorrow..

We have already got a home page and links with a rundown on the rules of the club...There is also lots of twists in the way the Club will work..

Just like the rest of the clubs it will be a role play club with a difference ... Something new and a chance for anyone to take command of an Army..[;)]

Awesome!Good on you HPS. My other favourite period, the Punic wars. Never did finish painting those armies especially now that I get my gaming fix from the PC not the tabletop. Is their a website for the new club yet?

I just read the HPS description and was wondering if anyone knows if there is a campaign feature with the game? The description just mentioned 41 scenarios. This would be an exscellent choice for a campaign I would think.

I was one of the testers on the game. There isn't a campaign just scenarios at present. Though I think Rich will be able to answer that question properly regarding campaigns.[:)]

I know I'm a bit slow coming to this thread, but I have to answer.

I can't speak to the new Ancients game *yet*. (I should be able to within the week.)

However, I've been involved in two projects to this point, and look to continue as such, and I'm personally annoyed at the implication that the work that HPS puts out is slipshod or third rate. I know how much work Bill has put into his games, and if you look at the others, the amout of effort and tender loving care is obvious.

Are the games perfect? Of course not. Of course, neither is *fill in pretty much any game you may wish to mention*

The visual look is a weak point yes, but frankly, if you try to "pretty up the look", you won't end up with a $49 game. You'll end up with a $129 game (or more). The sales volume on these games is simply not sufficient to be able to carry high end artwork.

Ah, but the modders do it! you cry. Perhaps, though one has to ask how many of those modders do so through the use of illegal (i.e. copyrighted) materals.

I agree with Dierk, that the look has gotten consistently better, and I expect that trend to continue.

If you feel that $49 is more than you wish to pay, that is of course your right, but there is no room to say that people like Bill, Rich or Charlie (and many others) haven't put alot of work into the games.

There was a time when I wanted to paint one stand of 25 mm miniatures for each type of unit we have in the games. Then take pics from six angles and have them be used as the 3d view.

I dont know what the effect would be and the "trimming" around the edges would be horrendous.

That being said I know that Mark does his best with it (Joe doesnt do the 3d).

But yes, us miniature guys and those that love the uniforms of the period would like to see better graphics for the 3d but ...

I can live with what we have.

Not that HPS needs me to point this out, but many of us Vets will attest to this.

How many war games are in your closet never having been used after the initial glow has waned. How many times were you burned by software companies that put out an inferior product and never patch the errors, instead they want you to buy the sequel which is often worse (hello Superpower)

Eckmuhl is on patch 9, NRC and Wagram must be on 5 or 6 by now, how many companies, when an improvement comes out in a new game, also upgrade their prior titles ? Not too many I imagine.

I, for one, am very thankful for HPS and this community of gamers. Unique amongst the PC gaming world, I think.
