Gentelmen,

I would like to secon Marechel Michell's words and add that I hold all the people involved in these Napoleonic titles in high regard for their courage, commitment and efforts all around. I commend John Tiller and Talonsoft for the guts to get the ball rolling and HPS and the team for having the balls to keep it going. [:)]

And while I'm handing out plaudits,, as for you guys that run this club and assist the development of the games 'gratis', my hat is off to you and my bar tab is open! [:p]

May I continue to spend my money on things that make my interest so enjoyable and interesting. [:D]

Regards All
Mike Ellwood

I would be interested in comparing some of the work of the modders that produce graphics that have been mentioned?

I for one continue to use the games because of the Clubs I am in and the people I play. I wouldn't touch them or Battleground that often otherwise, and would probably be gallivanting in another field somewhere. [:D]

Gentlemen,

Davout, what magnificent drawings/pictures. I am sure, tho, that there are also many other artist out there that can do a better job for (no doubt) a price.

Therein lies the rub. For a higher price we can have better graphics or rely on modders - who do it for free and because they love what they do.

The modders, perhaps, specialise in their graphics because they are very good at what they do, have ample time, do not need the money and are quite happy for us to use their perspiration to play our games.

Well done and thank you, gentlemen!

Mind you, if the imagination and efforts of our game designers didn't occur then our modders would only have a series of pretty picture to display. No game. No imaginative grand and local tactics displays. Just pretty pictures.

I quite agree that the game design should be complimented with the graphics design. Depends where the money is put.

Actually, it all really depends on where I and you put our money. At the moment, I am concerned with game playability - against other humans. This is a part of our "hobby" that HPS (at least) are willing to to place in their in basket.

If the game isn't up to scratch, then what point are the best graphics in the world? If the game is worth it, then why not update the graphics to make us want it more?

Just thoughts, gentlemen, nothing more...

Regards

Yes Sir Original.

Some of the units are far better than others, I believe I developed a 'better style' as I progressed through the units. Only time constraints stopped me from working back through some of them.

The units were not designed to be for large sized images. Remember game sized men are only about 50 pixels. The models will support detail upto about 120 pixels.

To be honest my area of expertise is more based on the age of the tricorne.

These are more the style of units I am used to.

Just so you guys know, Davout_ is Lee Harrison, the artist who did the unit graphics for Punic Wars. And personally I think he did a very good job...the 3D in the game has a very good "feel" to it, IMHO.

Tricorne eh?

Chuckle, so when does your Seven Years War game come out! [:D]

Honestly, I would love to see the SYW modelled in a HPS engine.

I just got my copy of the Punic Wars game. Bravo on the graphics. The 3D was well done!

<br />Not that HPS needs me to point this out, but many of us Vets will attest to this.

How many war games are in your closet never having been used after the initial glow has waned. How many times were you burned by software companies that put out an inferior product and never patch the errors, instead they want you to buy the sequel which is often worse (hello Superpower)

Eckmuhl is on patch 9, NRC and Wagram must be on 5 or 6 by now, how many companies, when an improvement comes out in a new game, also upgrade their prior titles ? Not too many I imagine.

I, for one, am very thankful for HPS and this community of gamers. Unique amongst the PC gaming world, I think.
