The 13e dragons rode headlong into the enemies column and overthrew them. Excelmann had his horse shot from under him and only escaped death or capture by grasping the stirrups leather of the horses of two troopers who carried him to safety. The light cavalry of Pajol’s also attacked the squares of the Landwehr who where among the corn and rye .Although the Lancers caused many casualties the squares remained intact. At best this second charge by the French bought some time for Excelmann dragons to retire. As more and more Allied troops arrived, followed by Hanoverians foot batteries with a two to one advantage in men Prince Fredrick decided to go over to the offensive. He intended to retake the positions his troopers had held. When Lt. General Hill ordered all troops to the left and the line retired back. Once more the French now aided by the II Corps attacked the withdrawing Allied Army.
