We have just concluded, in record time, the massive Jena scenario, "The Russians Are Coming", in which <i>Mssrs., </i>Blackburn and Berli commanded the French forces while <i>Marechal </i>Beacham and I had the honor of leading the gallant Prusso-Saxon armies. Although it was fiercely fought through the climactic, 2-day Battle of Rudolstadt, the encounter was marked by the chivalrous demeanor of all and fantastic, generally daily turn-arounds, unheard of in a complex, extensive MP game.[8D]

Mars smiled upon Prussian arms this time[:)].

Prince Luis' Advance Guard staged a gallant rear-guard action West of Rudolstadt on the opening day of the Campaign, supported by the cavalry of Hohenloe's Right Wing and the grenadiers and cavalry of Hohenloe's Reserve Dv. At the end of the day the Prussians were overwhelmed by superior numbers, but prevented Lannes' and Augerau's Corps from advancing East of Rudolstadt.

Their sacrifice had not been in vain, however, because it pinned the leading French corps to the vicinity of Rudolstadt's vital road junction. At dawn, the battle was renewed by Brunswick's Main Army and the balance of Hohenloe's forces which had converged on Rudolstadt via the pikes running to that town from BOTH the North and East. While echelon attacks straight down the pikes drew the bulk of the French to their Left and Right Flanks, the main attack was delivered against the fatally weakened French Center rupturing their defensive lines. By noon, although all of the French artillery managed to escape to the West Bank of the Saar, all the infantry of Lannes' and Augerau's Corps had been cut-off and destroyed.

Yes a great battle .

Again thanks Ed and Ola for a great turn around . we was turning files about every 2 days ,

Paco and i had a good plan from the start . and with a little luck it worked , and shows that this scn can be won by the Allies and the French ,

This is the 3rd MP game Paco and i have played as a team. and now we have 3 Victorys to our name.. We seem to work well together .

So until the next Allies come along to take us on.. My hate gos off to all 4 of us for a great game..

A tip of the hat to Paco and Dean. Excellent commentary Paco. Congratulations on developing and executing a great plan guys. I thoughtwe might have after you the first day but was proven badly mistaken. I have never played another MP game approaching the rapidity of file turn around as this game. It really helps to keep one's focus when not waiting two weeks between turns. Thanks to the two French gentlemen and my outstanding partner Ola Berli for a great gaming experience.[:D]

The Prussians can most definetly win this battle.[^]

Gentlemen sounds like an interesting game.

Cliff you can eliminate a unit with NME and isolation rules on by surrounding it and routing it.

Ah ha! I remember the plan well! Just couldnt trap Dean's Frenchies (when we played you and Dean) as you did with them in this game. Buggers always seemed to get away.

Cliff,

To sum up they attacked from three sides and were able to isolate and surround a nice large grouping of French units. One they had them isolated they move up gun, and fresh infantry. Eventually the units will rout and then you can overrun them with skirms. It was really the strategic plan that worked for them and the tactics just followed naturally. It was amazing and also frustrating being on the receiving end.[B)][;)]

I definetly learned a lot but I always do when playing against Dean and Paco.[xx(][:D]

Monsieur the movement is to slow to get a whole Corps let alone two!You had to be caught out in the open to do this not on the roads or in villages and the Prussians move at the same speed ?

I didn't try to escape I tried to fight. I had no idea that many Prussians were coming. I figured they were sending some forces across the river to link up with Russians. I thought we could beat them at Rudolstadt. Much of the fighting was in the woods. Once you you disrupt units in line in the woods it is not that hard to encircle them with fresh troops. We did the same thing to them on a smaller scale on the first day.

MMMMMMMMMM I see it would prove to me that even with the new high Moral level in this new file that A class French unite in none mul Inf attack will route?

Clifton,

There are no "supermen" in these battles and ANY unit will crack once it has received enough casualties and fatigue hits. If you add in the negative morale effects of being isolated and/or receiving fire on an exposed flank, it simply becomes a matter of time.

Moreover, once a unit is isolated, concentrated fire from infantry in line and/or point blank cannister will decimate a unit even if it doesn't rout. For instance, some of the stacks we isolated actually survived for nearly an hour (6 Turns) since at least some units would always be merely disordered, but that only prolonged the agony. To deal with them we simply dedicated fatigued units to form in line and blast away every turn until the stack was destroyed.
