For those who remember painting miniature Naps these books were golden.

I never got my hands on these until long after I had finished painting miniatures. I used the Hippocrene series. The 1812:Retreat from Moscow book was like gold to me as was the Napoleonic Wars one they put out. Had the Waterloo one too but never painted 1815 figures.

Owned a few prints as well as the Osprey books. In particular the Russian volume was helpful when I painted a Russian army for the Melee rules (house published at our local store). Used them for Bowden's Empire II rules later on.

Painted up X Corps - MacDonald from 1812 and then some other odd units (Vistula Legion).

There are so many rules sets out there now. A group I used to play with now uses Napoleon's Battles by AH. I have heard that Fire and Fury is good as well as its successor, Age of Eagles.

One of these days I may paint some figures for Napoleon's Battles ... I really enjoyed painting ...

Did up some Landsknects for French Wars of Religion using the WRG rules. Was working on Swedes when I quit. And also painted up a ton of Johnny Reb ACW stuff too.

I have these books in text form but this helps the "mod" makers in putting together the Units.bmp files.

Funcken books were the premier source for a long time.

Dean Beecham found a set of CDs that has a lot of great prints on it. Contact him if you want more details or maybe he will post the URL here in this thread.

back from my schoolboy times, I used to get one of them as Christmas present.

and now, at the age of 42, they are still in good position on my bookshelf. the full collection is organized as below:

WWII (3 vol.)
WWI (2 vol.)
Napoleonic ("1st Empire" 2 vol.)
Renaissance (" war in lace era" 2 vol.)
Middle ages ("Chivalry " 2 vol)
ACW (2 vol)
Soldiers of all times (2 vol. roughly: from ancient egypt, assyria, greece, rome ... to 60's)Tthe latter being the oldest ones, they belonged to my father & have been printed in 1966 & 67 respectively.

Of note, each chapter has text explaining military organization, uniforms & units color codespolitical context, weapon & upgrades, tactics & strategies etc... - be it for Sherman tank in WWII or roman legion organization !!

a must-have

I wonder if any printing company has ever considered re-printing the entire stuff??
