Can any of you scenario designers remind me how to cope with fields and rough terrain when generating the LoS file. Using Robert Lieb's LoS generator I find that fields and rough terrain obstruct LoS no matter how much higher my viewpoint is.

I am in the process of trying to regenerate the file with fields and rough terrain removed from the main.map file (for the purpose of generation of the LoS file only), but this will give a LoS file that gives the impression of unhindered vision through the fields.

Now, on a small scenario I could go through and manually edit the LoS file, but, for a map about 250 x 250 hexes, I just aint going to live long enough !!

It's about 5 years since I had a go at this and my memory is not what it was.

Thanks for any suggestions

Mark

Ok Guys, ignore above. Removing fields and rough from main.map before generating the LoS seems to have fixed the problem.

Oh crap!!!

That didn't fix it as the LoS now indicates visible hexes through fields even when on the same level.

Solution anyone?

Please tell me I don't have to manually adjust the whole map hex by hex because of fields!

Thanks for any information

Lots of reading but no replies [V]

Perhaps my question is not clear?

Perhaps no-one knows the answer?

Perhaps the answer is secret?

Perhaps there is no answer?

As an experiment I put the Quatre Bras map through the Lieb LoS tool and it generated a totally different LoS file to that with the game - due to the fields. So I guess that the tool does not cope well with fields. Is there a simple way around this?

Please....

Hi Mark

A programmer-opponent gave me a new LoS generating program, I'll see if I can find it. Long time since I used it. It helped me correct some of the nirproject maps.

I do recall having to correct some value in the pdt file. Or at least take account of something there for field hexes. Certainly you don't have to alter the main.map

Ok. It's a reply. Not that much help but still.......

Hi Andy

That would be great if it is does recognise field and rough terrain and accounts for them correctly when generating the LoS file

Cheers

I think I've found the exe file.....it's on an old floppy disk which refuses to open. I'm trying to get our IT technician to take a look.

Well the floppy disk is corrupted beyond repair so I'm told. Great. I do have an old pc so maybe it's still on there. Losing the file would be depressing as I can't replace it. Should have been more careful I suppose.

I'm sure we hit this problem with Dresden and Waterloo Campaign, unsure how it was solved but still have this feeling we changed elevation of fields in the pdt. But that was 5 years ago now and I'm older and more dissipated now.
