I recently went looking for a 22 inch LCD panel. I checked with Best Buy online and they had an Asus VK222H that looked decent. So I ordered it online and did a In-Store pickup.

Now while it had a nice set of controls the max refresh rate you can get for any of the settings you would want to use is 60 hz.

So I looked online again and found that LG makes a nice 22 inch LCD panel. It advertised the max freq. setting as 80 hz. Sounded good!

So I ordered this LCD panel and took the other one back to the store this morning.

Upon installing the new monitor I found that (alas) the max resolution still would only support a 60 hz refresh rate. The resolution is 1680 x 1050 pixels.

So I fiddled a bit with the settings and lo and behold by using the graphics card adaptor control panel settings I was able to sharpen the lettering, have the games screen look awesome and frankly I am tickled pink at the results.

Here is the model number:

LG W2241T

With a 4 year "Geek-Squad Back Tie Protection Plan" the monitor cost me about 280 USD (with tax included).

So if you are looking to update your system's monitor I highly recommend this monitor.

I am still using my Samsung SyncMaster 930B. I had considered upgrading to one of their newer 19 inch LCD panels which has a DVI cable/port if this LG panel didnt work but I feel that this one will do the job!

Really makes browsing in the forum and in the games that much better. And the sharpness of the letter and lack of flicker is more than within my eye threshold (I am very picky as my eyes are super sensitive - hated the cheap Gateway monitors that we used to get at work - and some folks would demand that they get a new monitor despite me trying to tell them that their current 17 inch monitor was really better!).

If anyone has another LCD panel that they think is a better product lets hear from you. Hoping that you looked at the LG in comparison to your choice of course!

The large LCD monitors are great. It is important to use the LCD monitors native resolution to get the best results. Mine is 1920x1200. I purchased a 24" Samsung 245 BW on sale, had it for a year and it is awesome. I have a hard time playing a game on my friends 20" older LCD. Hooked up thru the DVI port the graphics are amazing, a VGA port is available as well. You can see a great deal of map realstate. I love it. Great for 1080P movies as well. The prices have dropped significantly. Well worth saving up to get one.

I have attached a gif of the map area between a 1280x1080 of a 19in and the 1920x1200 of a 24in.

Note that the screenshots are at lower quality to get a reasonable file size.

Bill I recommend a 24".

Thanks for the reply Pierre. For me 22 is almost too much. My eyes again ... sheesh weak blue eyes.

The main thing was to get some screen increase without wearing out my wimpy eyes in the process.

I have heard that the latest Combat Mission game supports multiple monitors. It only took the programmer 30 mins to code his program to work with it. Would be nice if we could get the same thing in our games. The idea of being able to view the map all the way across the front would be awesome!

Imagine in Waterloo - from Braine L'Alleud to St. Lambert or further east in one viewing![;)]

I have multiple monitors which allows for some convenient HPS game functions. When reviewing a replay I can have the the Jump Map on a screen and review the play on the main screen. It helps to figure out on the map where the action is. This is especially valuable when you are not familiar with a large map. I have a 24 LCD and a 19 crt. Works out fine although one day I may be able to afford another 24. Nirvana.

LCD's only support 60hz but a new version is starting to support 120hz but this is not standard perhaps in a few monthse the 120hz tecnology will become standard.

When you are choosing and LCD you also need to consider not just the refresh rate of the display but the response time of the monitor-especially if you are going to be playing real-time high res computer games. I have a 22" Viewsonic with a 3MS response time measured grey to grey. If the LCD has too low a response time you may see a 'ghost' image as the individual pixels can not change fast enough as the input signal

Wow - 120 hz! That would be NICE.

Phil - yes, the refresh rate is VERY important. The one I have has a refresh rate of 5ms. Seems adequate as I dont play action games.

When I load my digital map software it refreshes faster than it did on my older PC.
