Napoleonic Wargame Club (NWC)

So I got the new hard drive and tried to install windows...says it could not find the hard drive...ugh....so I may have to wait till the end of the month until a friend comes down to help me. [:(!][V][xx(][:(]

Good luck, Scott. Do you have SATA or IDE? Check jumper positions? Win XP or Vista?

Thanks Dirk. It was a loose plug in the back. I got XP to load, did the partition and it restarted...I didn't take out the CD, it loaded the setup again and then said an operation system was already installed on the partitioned drive (NTFS), I didn't want to choose that to install...so I restarted took out the disk...now I get a disk boot error with it out, placed it back in and just get a setup_initialization error....so I'm stuck right now. Any thoughts? Has XP been installed somehow?

Why not just reformat the drive ?

I remember that you had to change the boot drive in CMOS.

Also drive needs to be jumpered correctly if it has jumper block. Some new drives dont have it. You just plug it in and its good to go.

CD Rom also has jumper block. You need to make sure its a Slave drive for the most part.

But check in CMOS. It may be trying to boot to the CD.

CDROM's are good but what is CMOS and how do I access it?

When you boot up your PC you will see a key that you can hit that will allow you to enter SETUP.

DEL or F1 or some other key.

You may need to get the motherboard manual out to find it.

Once you get in there is a set of menus. In one of them is the boot order. You can select the CD to boot first or the hard drive.
