Hoping that its bug free and all that and that they support it with updates ...

But barring that its turn based and its good for us to have other formats of play. That way folks can pick and choose and we can potentially get more new members.

Good deal Cab.[:p]

Good news. Where will we able to have The Peninsular battles first, HW or HPS?

Hist War ships with a set amount of battles and editors. It will be up to the gamers/community to furnish future battles unless they put out a module on that.

Frankly I prefer authorized products but modules are not a money-maker for a company.

Our team is working on just about every campaign conceivable. To try and figure out when HPS or Hist War community will develop that campaign is just pure conjecture at this point and will only upset some of our members who dont like to hear mention if something is coming out soon.

The thing right now is to see how Hist War plays and then take the editors and map data and OB info and put something together expecting that nothing will be forthcoming from them of other battles/campaigns.

What most people are looking for is a game that features an operational movement engine with a battle engine. Frank Hunter's game (1809) allowed you to play his game and then do the battles using another engine and then update the unit strengths (never did this so only know it by what I heard on a forum). HPS campaigns only can do so much in this dept. (although we have yet to really use up the entire scope of the engine on this)

I dont know if Hist Wars features any kind of campaingn format. From what I am seeing its just a battle engine.

Here are the battles you get in this game:

Haslach, Austerlitz, Eylau, Friedland, Campaign of Eckmul, Wagram, Moscowa (Borodino), Berezina, Hanau and La Rothière.

Frankly adding in Hanau is an odd one. It was a blowout battle by Napoleon. The Bavarians and Austrians were not on the same page. I would think that something like Marengo would have worked better.

I dont know what they mean by Campaign of Eckmuhl. I guess that means the battles of the campaign. I cant find anything on their website that indicates it covers campaigns, that is carrying over losses from one battle to another and allowing you to move divisions/corps on an operational level.

My feeling is that if it lives up to its name it will be a super battle simulator. I like the idea of making up your own uniforms. For those that like historical accuracy this may mean making sure that one regiment has the right cuff/collar combination for a given regiment.

Lots of questions waiting to be answered to be sure.

I think the game presents several questions:
(1) will it be good in any form. Meaning does it work as designed and is the design good.

(2) if out of the box it has some issues, can the editor cure them?

(3) a game that had a whole lot of potential, and I would like to see Matrix or someone revive or 'copy' was Wargamer 1813. That game, after two unofficial patched by the programmer, was almost amazing. In the end, the grand tactical (division based) part worked well and as designed, but the operational/strategic level still had issues.

One problem (I cannot get it to run in VISTA so I cannot play with it) may have been the aggression levels for leaders was set to low (the game had a lot of built in 'learn' as you go for leaders who would improve with experience).

The game was so, so very close, but the poor operational AI made it no fun to play the campaign. The AI simply would not attack or if it did not in any coordinated way....

my main quesiton on this game would be is it all pretty graphics or does it allow us to simulate the operational art of the N wars.

I think HPS and BG do I wonder if a product with so much emphasis on graphics will.

I sure hope so because those are most beautiful graphics for sure!

Salute!

Jim
Do you mean "napoleon 1813", came out about 10 years ago? I bought the game on the strength of the intent and gave it back the next day because it kept crashing. In the meantime, I leaned to love the production and operational side and realised the tactical engine was useless.

Did they actually get it to work? If so, would you know where I could get a copy, as it is presumably out of copyright by now (no longer being sold). If this is wrong, of course I would not be asking ofr such things.

Napoleon 1813. No, it never did work. Appallingly buggy even with patching. Ah, the sounds of cutlery being poured out of a draw....you'd think uh? and scroll to another part of the field and see a dead corps in heaps. The frequent crashes. Units having a mind of their own. Nice idea, good graphics....but a failure nontheless.

Then there was Age of Sail 2.....

I'll wait and see before I buy LG. I'm sceptical of too much hype.Besides it won't work on my home pc.

It was called Wargamer: Napoleon 1813 and I have the CD in a pile by my computer. I cannot get it to run in VISTA (it worked in ME). With two unofficial patches the tactical game mostly worked as designed (it was worthless out of the box) and was more fun than I anticipated when I tried it again about three years ago. But the operational AI never worked at all so the strategic/operational game was useless. Yes, the production and operational movement system and the map were first rate, but the fact it was a single player game with a non-functioning AI made it no fun. As I said, I do not know if this was simply a matter of tweaking the aggressiveness ratings of the leaders or if the AI was unable to coordinate any movements...

Wargamer:Napoleon 1813. Here's the webpage for the open source project for the game.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/wargamer/

I kept checking this for a few years in the hope that this game which promised so much would be made playable, but alas is seems to be well and truly dead.

Not necessarily a dead issue!! This is from another forum:

JMM"

/The project will not be diffused by BattleFront but by us. The economic conditions largely evolved/moved since the signature of the contract and it s' prove that the new negotiation failed; each one takes again its freedom. Grognards will not lose anything of its characteristics… Planning: 1/ the handbook will be available for consultation on November 11 2/ the demonstration will be in loading before the end of the month; j' on a date but it could be qu' it is still brought closer 3/ the play will be in pre-order beginning of December in remote loading 4/ it will be available before Christmas in remote loading. Taking account of l' quick change, the version limps about it will not be available initially. time to set up the delivery system. All that goes a little quickly, but it n' there has no reason not to hold the course since the choice falls to us about it JMM"
