If you have change from win-zip to rar then the other player with win-zip can’t open your files lets all be on the same page to play!

With WINRAR you have a choice of several compression methods, including ZIP and RAR. WINZIP or any other ZIP program should have no problem with UNZIPPING the files.

What version of Winzip are you using Cliff?

The latest version allows you to do alot more than ever. I am glad I bought a copy of it last year.

Mine opens .rar files just fine. I get them from Vladmir when he isnt sick, drunk or celebrating some Russian festival, off beating up on Armenians while on reserve duty, etc. [:D]

There are MANY FREE ZIP/RAR programs around.

No need to spend $$$$$$$$ on WINZIP.

JUST GOOGLE for FREE ZIP programs and get one that supports multiple formats.

I have the paid version of Winzip (It's not expensive, and I like rewarding good work), and I'm currently able to open .rar files no problem. I can't write -to- a .rar. So, in the one game, my opponant sends me .rar and I send him .zip. Seems to be working fine.

The "free" winzip is NOT free, it is a trial shareware version and SHOULD be paid for after the trial period.

The FREE I am talking about are truly FREE, with no limitations.
7-zip is an open source FREE, FREE program.

AND many others.

Cliff - in order to check to see if .rar file types are associated with your install of Winzip try checking in the program. Here is where you will find it:

1. Open up the Winzip program.
2. Pulldown the Options menu.
3. Choose Configuration and then the System tab.
4. Near the top left part of the dialog there is a button for Associations. Click on this.
5. Scroll down to where you see .RAR - it should be checked. If its not then check it and click on OK. Close the dialog windows. Try opening up the .rar archive.

That is the only thing I can think of that is stopping it from opening up that file type.

I am using WinZip 12.1 Pro.

I am glad I paid money for it. I like to support good programs and I used the free version for years and now wish to show the guys there that they put out a fine product.

You can go with a free version of other software if you like. I had the money at the time and felt that it was a good investment.

I hope this helps. Otherwise why not contact the support folks at WinZip. They may be able to help you out.
